Blue Hearts Progress

The quilt that I am making for my wife is made out of blue hearts. We have constructed about 22 blocks so far each block has 4 patch on bottom and a heart shaped 4 patch on top. The 22 that we have made still need have the top heart stitched on, they are appliques You can see here on the left I have lined a hand full of them up on the table to show off for this post. The stack of 22 that are done is on the right side.

The image on the bottom left is ones that are still missing their hearts.  My wife is a total fan of hearts and when I first started quilting I bought a book that had a pile of heart quilts.   On the right is a image I found off the web that is in the book and the basic design that we are going to make.  Any way after the grand shopping trip this is what the wife and I worked on to relax on Sunday.

We have been working on this quilt since late December.  The original plans in the book has 13 blocks and is a wall hanging we are planing to do this for our bed.  My wife and I have not quite decided on how to lay out the blocks any suggestions would be helpful.

  2. I love that you are doing this together. As for the layout, go with what is pleasing to your eyes.

    The color choices are great.

  3. Hi! I told you I would stop by....just took me a while, since I work full time and quilt/blog part time! LOL Don't we all wish we could reverse that!
Love your hearts for your wife's quilt -- the layout that you showed is very nice, but I agree with Sarcastic Quilter above. The most important thing is to lay the blocks out in a way that you and your wife like the best. Let your creativity roll!

  7. Ohh, isn't that romantic - making a heart quilt with your honey :) You have lots of options for the layout... you could just keep expanding the original layout of the wallhanging, repeatedly adding another plain border and another round of blocks until it's big enough to fit. Or you could make multiples of the wallhanging design (complete with plain border, and outer border), then lay them out alternating with an unpieced/plain block (that way you won't need to make quite so many hearts). Most fun is to just keep making heaps, then have a big play.

  11. Oh this is so pretty, I just love the hearts and gosh I couldn't tell you were a beginner at all with such beautiful work. I love the lay out you showed, but I think to stretch your 26 blocks you could put a regular 4 patch in between each heart- really lovely work!
