My wife loves to read facebook. She is not a big poster, but she follows along with every ones life (hum I love my blog, but hate facebook, I guess I don't get this any way) The other day some one our family knows puts a face book post saying that they have some fabric that their mother no longer wants that might be good for quilting.
So my wife asks me if I am interested. Ya of course I was. What I got is fantastic. They commented that its old and out of date, but hey I think its wonderful. I got a huge bin full of fabrics I went though the whole basket and all I can say is I have ideas for a few dozen projects and I will just dent the pile.
My wife's and my taste differ greatly so it is interesting what excites me and what excites her. Their are a ton of different plaid fabric which I love (wife does not lol). All I could think is wow that would be fun to do a quilt with 20+ different plaid fabrics. Any way some of this material is 10+ years old some is even older and it is cool so excited.
Not to be totally out done, the mail box did bring me a surprise too. In the mail I got my buttons from Africa I won these 2 months ago (the first crafty thing, while any thing I had ever won). These buttons made from a company Incomparable Buttons are hand made in Africa. They are just fantastic I won them as a sponsored giveaway from Sew Cal Gal that link will take you to the post about these buttons. I was 1 of 10 people to win and I was so excited. They are worth the wait.
My wife Tanya's Maiden name is Button. Buttons are exciting to me. I want to make a wall hanging of some type out of them. My father in law gave me a wall decoration long ago that read "Button Button who has the Button". He pointed out to me that I got the Button and that I am to honor and take care of her forever.
I love her deeply.
Awwww - congrats on the great gifts you won arriving in the mail and the greatest gift of your "Button" many years ago!!!
ReplyDeleteGreat win, and great rescue of the fabric stash! I love the idea of a quilt using different plaids. :)
ReplyDeleteVintage fabric, how fun! Some of that stuff is from the 70's. Enjoy!
ReplyDeleteIt's so good to hear that you are cherishing your "button"! How utterly romantic and amazing that your very first win was beautiful heart shaped buttons! Your wife is a wonderful blessing indeed..and what a neat bucket of fabric right there! You are one blessed quilter. grace:)
ReplyDeleteWow what a great haul and a whole bin full too!! So lucky. The buttons are so cute!!
ReplyDeleteGood for you. A good wife is a rare thing.
ReplyDeleteI store my stash in smaller plastic bins, by project. All of my non-project-designated fabrics are in a big bin like yours. I was just thinking this morning that I need to separate out that big bin into smaller bins by color.
ReplyDeleteAnd FYI, stash multiplies like bunnies when you're not looking, so beware.
Also, I loved reading your sweet sentiments about your wife. The world needs more of that.
