Tanya Rocks!

Tanya is showing off again, she had her next block in our Beginner Quilt Along  She is frustrated with her block because her corners don't match perfectly.  I think she did a fantastic job though.

When I sat down to make this post it seems I have extra pictures on my camera.  My Daughter took this picture of my 3 cherries.  I bought 2 cherry trees this year and planted them in my front yard (ran out of room in the back yard for tree's it has way more then our small yard can handle.) I do not know much about cherry's other then they taste good how do you tell when they are ready?

As for me all I did today was finish the quilting of my soldier star quilt.  This quilt took some serious effort.  I wanted to echo quilt both sides of all the blocks that were different side by side (so between blue and read etc and white and blue.  but between same blocks I did not quilt)  It was a lot of effort to drag the quilt though the machine.  Now all I need to do is cut it down (we did a booboo on basting it and part of one side did not get back and batting) so I need to find the least amount I can cut off the edges to make it look good and bind it should maybe have it done by Friday night.

This block is one of my 12 1/2 inch block swap blocks I got this month it sure is pretty.

  1. It's easy to tell when cherries are ripe in our garden, it's about 3 minutes before the birds eat them all... They seem to have a sixth sense about these things.
    Enjoy them!

  2. Tanya does rock! Her corners are lining up much better than mine do, and that's a pretty block :)

  3. I love Tanya's block! She is doing an awesome job. I love the colors, too. Your soldier's star quilt is really pretty. I don't think I've ever seen fabric that looks like that does. It sure is nice. I love the swap block you received, too. I am so proud of the two of you and your successes with quilting.

  4. Tanya did an awesome job on her block.

You'll know when the cherries are ripe when you see the birds getting them. We hang old DVD discs in our fruit trees to scare the birds away.

  5. I think Tonya's block looks great. However, if she wants to try an make it perfect (I get mad at imperfect corners) just take the seam ripper and take out a few stitches before and after thee corner. Then realign and stretch the fabric a bit, pin it good and slowly stitch again. That's the way I do it and it works well . (I may or may not have to do it a lot ;)

  6. Tanya, you are doing a great job! There was a time when I said I would never do triangles. It took over year to try them and to have them look sort of good, so I am super impressed with yours. Seriously.

  7. The block looks great, Tanya! Are you turning your seams in opposite directions and butting them up against each other? That always helps match the seams, but I think yours look pretty good - better than a lot of blocks that have been swapped to me!
Try a cherry and see if it's good. =) Actually, if it comes off the tree without a lot of pulling, it's probably going to be close to ripe.

  8. Tanya's block looks just fine. Matching seams gets easier with practice.
As for cherries--I think they are ripe when the birds are eating them and you have to take a broom to shoo them away so you can have some for yourself.

  9. Tanya, the best tip I ever got about matching corners like that , was to shorten your stitch length. Somehow it seems to keep the corners closer together and I also pin right at the corners and sew right up to the pin before I remove it. Oh, and practice practice practice.
