Happy Halloween

Well another holiday is here and me and the kids are dressed for work/school today.  I hate dressing up but at work today they are feeding us and its required to be in costume.  Are you able to tell what I am dressed as?

If you said scout you are only half correct.  Think Pixar Movies by Disney

One Big Scrappy Star!!

My star quilt is getting bigger, but it is not yet done.  The quilt top now measures 80 inches by 80 inches.  This is to be my masterpiece of scrappy star's  If this is not looking familiar, this is my "Richard's Star" block I created the block in EQ7 more then a year ago and have been working on different quilts using the star block.  You can find the pattern for the original star on Craftsy as a free giveaway (link above on menu to my pattern store). I have made single small blocks, one giant block quilt (as a joke for Tanya, you can see the block on the blog post that link leads too.)  I even made a quilt that I entered into a show using this pattern and called it Odd man out!  The best of all of these quilts is that I am making one for my bed.

The picture above is misleading as the angle the kids are holding it is not the way it will go on our bed.  As you can see below the points of the star will go up and down and right to left.  So I am not done making this quilt.  I still have quite a few more blocks to make too get it done.  I need to negotiate with Tanya on exactly how big she wants it.  She keeps telling me its just a little small and we can add borders.  Well,  I don't want borders I want more checker boxes.  That means I need to sew a lot more blocks together.  I think I have about 5 blocks between the turquoise and brown still to sew onto the quilt, but I had to see how it lays to get an idea of what I want and what I still need to sew up.

Chevrons and More HST's

These stacks of triangles are for 9 different quilts.  The first is done.

It is a scrappy chevron quilt out of Jungle Bungle.  It has 4 different colors in the front.

The back is Richard's favorite, a scrappy chevron, diagonal across the back.  The binding is the ruled paper from the same line, just super scrappy.

This cute quilt measures about 39 by 39.  It has been added to our etsy store .  There is a chevron top out of Ticklish that is almost complete, and we are working on the back now.  Look forward to lots of HST projects in the next few weeks or months with life's distractions and other projects.

Another quilt for Cody

This is a rag quilt for Tanya's brother Cody.  One of his son's took the one we made him for Christmas last year.  Notice is only one print of fabric. He wanted the quilt in a camouflage print and I showed him a sample of this fabric and thought of doing black or green with it, but he only wanted the one fabric. It is super easy if  there is no pattern to keep track of.

This thing in huge for a lap quilt, approximately 6 feet wide by 8 feet long. Cody is 6 ft 5 inches.  It took 13 1/2 yards of fabric. It covers the top of our queen size bed. I did 8 inch squares.  It is the biggest rag quilt I have done on my little Brother sewing machine.  I normally have Richard sew the larger rows together on his bigger machine.

Baby Bricks Quilt

This was a custom quilt that was just finished up.  We ended up buying the whole fat quarter bundle of Reunion  by Sweetwater. This is one of Richard's favorite lines.  I don't know why we end up with customer orders on fabric that are 1 to 2 years old.  Good thing there is the Internet and we were able to locate it.

It measured 40 by 50 inches and is now on its way.  We did this quilt with a scrappy feel.  The pattern for this quilt is one designed by us and for sell on Craftsy.  You can follow the patterns link on top of the blog to find pattern. Richard and Tanya Quilts Patterns on Craftsy

Link A Finish Friday #88

Today I would like to start by sharing Tanya's Most recent quilt.  She has been doing a good job lately.  Me (Richard) I have been some what distracted the last few weeks and only have a few things to show for it.  I think soon I am going to have to kick into gear though as I feel like a slacker.

Another Custom Rag Quilt

A customer wanted a lavender, purple, and green rag quilt with elephants.  This quilt was done by Tanya, Richard is busy working on another custom baby quilt.

This cute rag quilt is 40 by 50.  It has a dark purple minky on the back.

The front has two minky fabrics. The dark purple and a lavender with a rose pattern.   The rose minky is super cute, but sheds tons.  It has three cotton fabrics.

I used my embroidery machine to applique the elephants on 8 squares. The design wasn't designed for applique so I ended up doing some close trimming after it was sewn. I can see a few more baby quilts with elephants in the future.  I think this is one of the cutest rag quilts so far.  Just in case you are wondering, the flannel isn't gone, I've just been busy with other projects like laundry and other fun cleaning projects.

Batik Quilt Done at Last

I have at last got my Twin Size Batik quilt done (ok, it was done 2 weeks ago), but I made this top almost a year ago.  Because of the size it sat for a long time without a back and then when that was done.  It again sat for a long time as Tanya worked up her desire to baste it.  Above it is pictured on my sons Bunk Bed.

Trying out the new quilt rack that was found at thrift store.  This quilt is made with dark and light grey batik material and then 10 inch blocks at a diagonal of random batik fabrics out of 2 1/2 inch squares.

A close up of  one of the square blocks.  Each of blocks is quilted in the square design.  It took a long time to quilt them as I quilted down each side, spiraling in and I underestimated the effort of turning the quilt in circles.

It cover the top of a queen size bed.

The back is a combination of the light and dark batiks.
