Tribute to a Great Man

My Father in law Nolan Button (Tanya's Father) passed away this last Sunday after complications after surgery to remove some cancer they found.  I had a complicated relationship with my Father in law he was a man use to toiling with his hands running heavy equipment from a small town (Kanab) in southern Utah and I was a city boy from the large city in the north (Salt Lake City).  From the day I asked his permission to marry his oldest daughter to the last day I saw him (this last fathers day) walking around we never understood each other.  We were from different planets or at least as close as we could be to that.  I with my fancy computers and web development and his digging in the dirt with his equipment.  But we did share one thing in common and that is that we both truly loved the same girl, my wife Tanya.

Nolan will be missed not only by my wife, but by me.  I always wanted to know and understand him more and for him to understand me.  But that will have to wait tell another time now.  I loved him and was able to sit by his side and hold his hand while he passed from this earth.  He will be missed and is love by the Healey family.  His funeral will be held this 7/3/2014

  1. What an honest, loving tribute. Life is complicated, as is love. I believe we'll understand each other better when we're less encumbered by our earthly differences. I like to think of it like slipping off a heavy coat that served a purpose and had become familiar and comforting, but also got in the way.

Sending my condolences to your family.

  15. Reaching out in solidarity and heartache in the loss of your father, Tanya, and your father-in-law, Richard. I lost my dad in May. Complicated relationships are hard; we can hope to understand more as we mature and grow.
