Triangle Quilt Along Cutting Day

I am joining the Triangle Quilt Along.    You can click on the link on my side bar or follow this link to find more info about it.  I think there was over 100 people that linked up last week for their fabric pick.  These are my triangles that I have cut.   They are a from a fat quarter bundle that Tanya bought.  The name of the bundle is Wishes from Sweet Water.

On Saturday, Tanya made a cake for Julia for her B-day I think it is a fitting end to this post.  Oh and for any one that missed Friday's post we are having a giveaway go check it out if you have not entered.

Link A Finish Friday #111 and Julia's 2nd Birthday Giveaway!

For any one that does not remember why Tanya and I got into quilting in the first place it was Julia.  No she is not our first kid, she is the 4th.  In fact her older brother is 18 years old.  I learned to quilt, because I did not know any one that could make my at that time unborn baby a quilt.  Giving away is part of her B-day.  Do not fear we got her something too.

Our gift for you our followers is 6 Fat Quarters.  Below you can see the fabric you can win.  As for Julia, she has her boons (balloons) as she calls them.  Her grandmother bought her the pj's that says Its my B-Day!

So what do you have to do to win? That is a good question.  Tanya some times gives me grief, because I make it too hard and sometimes I think she makes it too easy.  I figure if you want a present you will work a little for it.  So this is what I would like.  For the easy entry Link Up to LAFF and leave a comment saying you did.  For a bonus entry, visit our Craftsy Patterns and leave a comment on one and then come back here and leave a comment.  If that is not enough for you and you really want to knock it out of the park, feel free to share our giveaway with your friends on either you blog, pin the giveaway, Facebook about it or share what ever other way you would like and leave a comment about it.

Well it is now time to link up (and enter the giveaway), next week I will make it up and do some highlights from this week and last week.  But for me, I am just going to hug and kiss Julia all day today as she is growing up. The giveaway for Julia's birthday will end Thursday, April 3rd.

Photo's Taken

This is just a small collection of the pictures we took.  The folder containing the pictures has over 300 after we deleted the really bad ones and then started editing the pictures.  Since this is just our first time trying harder at taking better pictures they look all the same.  We will be doing more pictures and more props to take the pictures as time goes on.

If you have any suggestions for taking pictures or staging the quilts please let me know.  As I said Tanya took pictures while I quilted so all of these great shots are thanks too her.  I did help edit about half the picture and I showed Tanya how to add my water mark but the rest is all her and I think they turned out great.

Photo Weekend and A Quilt top finish!

Tanya and I have struggled for a long time on how to take some decent pictures of our quilts in our small house with no room.  With both of us working full time on opposite schedules, there is only weekends to take them somewhere along mixed with all the other weekend plans.  We decided we would invest some money and buy lights and a back drop, and tripod for the camera.  This picture here was taken long after the picture shoot was over, but by the time we were too tired to put it away.

Tanya and I talked about what our plans for the day was.  I wanted to find a couple quilts take good pictures of them and figure out what we liked.  Tanya well she had other things in mind.  She first gathered up all  the completed quilts.  These 7 boxes represent the bulk of the quilts that are either listed for sale on Etsy or are planed to giveaway.

Well needless to say my idea of just a couple shots, was tossed out the window.  Tanya had other things in mind.  I was working on the below quilt (the 4 corners were finished this weekend, the center has been done for months). Tanya took 1 quilt at a time and put it on the quilt rack,  took its picture and then threw it into a pile.  It was funny that when the pile was almost done and we planned to take a fun picture of it, it fell over for the bulk of it.  Any way an amazing pile of quilts.

This is what I have completed over this weekend.  I have finally finished the quilt top for my queen size bed.  I was not in the mood to figure out how to take a picture of it inside, so I took it out and tossed it on the lawn.  The big blocks in the quilt each have 100 2 1/2 inch blocks. so approximately 1200 brown block, 1500 turquoise blocks, and a couple hundred tan blocks tossed in on the center star.  Below you can see that other then the center of the star this quilt top is a copy of my Richard's Star pattern that I made a year and a half ago.  This post shows just the middle of the quilt previous to this weekend.

Here are more pictures taken outside.

Before coming inside, Rebecca thought it would be a good idea to take some pictures of our weeds.  What do you know there are a couple flowers mixed in.

Any way the top of our queen size quilt is done.  Now to decide what to do on the back.  Next week by the way, Princess Julia turns 2 and to celebrate we will be doing a giveaway for her B-Day on Friday.

Link A Finish Friday #110

Today I have to say sorry for being a slacker (no not in quilting, but in blog duties)  Here is what I completed today just before making this post just to show I am not slacking.

Back in Early Febuary I should have anounced and turned in LAFF Friday for January.  But I had excuses I was busy worying about my knee just around time for knee surgery.  While I am well into recovery and for the most part have bounced back well.  But then Febuary went buy and I again missed anouncing the winner.  So today I have fixed that issue.  In January we had LAFF #99 - 103.  With random.org I picked #100.  Then with the help of random I picked quilt #31

I have emailed Val to let her know.  Next I used random for LAFF # 104-107 and picked #104 and then again Random and got Quilt #13 and emailed Janeen  Thank you for all that linked up and congrats to the winners.

Now on to last weeks link up's

Spines Mini Quilt (Wall Hanging)

Last week I went though a paper piecing kick.  Part of which was instigated by my modern quilt guild.  They are planning a training on paper piecing tonight and I figured I needed to figure it out before hand.  I believe we plan to do a challenge but I don't remember for sure.

I created the pattern for this block my self on EQ7.  Some one on Pintrest commented that it looks like the top of a pineapple.  I made 4 of my blocks and toyed with how I wanted to put it together.  As you can see above and below was my 2 choices.  I of course chose to point them in.

To me it remines me of a trap with spines on it that you could stick your hand into and get caught in.  I know not a great name but hey I was not going for a name but rather going for trying something a little harder then the last paper pieced block I made.

The back of the quilt I sewed 2 triangles on to use to hang it up.  One interesting thing on this quilt is I also free motion stitched it in the ditch.  And of course the back is made from scraps.  All of the material in this project was just left over stuff in the stash.

The method to my madness

Sometimes I wonder what the method to my madness is.  I jump from project to project and some I have a clue what I plan to do with them others are just random scraps of fabric sewn together.

I take many more pictures then I actually post.  I really should show more of these things in progress.  These are some of the things that are sitting on my desk to finish.  Some are tops and others are quilted and only missing bindings to be complete.

And some are completed quilts that are just waiting for time to get a post of their own.  But today I just wanted to show some of the random things sitting on my desk waiting to be finished.
