Dresden Petals from a lady at church.

A couple months back a lady from church approached me and asked me if I was still quilting.  I of course told her that I was.  She said that someone she knew (It might have been her mother?) had cut out some Dresden petals and they were in a box and wanted to know if I wanted them and if I knew what to do with them.

I am always up for the challenge and said yes. I was over whelmed with what I got but could not be more happy to take it off her hands.

What I got was more then I could have believed. There has to be a thousand of petals in this box many of  the same color group and many not.  I laid out all of the completed ones I found in the box.  I like the blue ones the best, but don't believe there are many in that color.

Knowing the fact that I like baby quilts I have enough to make a dozen or 2 using the Dresden.  I can't wait to see what we can make of them,  If you have suggestions let me know.

  1. You all have hit the jackpot! Dresdens are one of my favorite blocks, you can do so much with them. You could make them look like flowers by adding a simple stem. They make great quilt borders, baskets, and fan blocks. Just google dresden quilts and let the inspiration begin. I'm looking forward to seeing what you and your wife come up with!

  2. WOW! What an awesome gift you have received! This is my favorite block also and makes a beautiful quilt. That lady is right-you can do so many things with them. By using part of a block you can make a fan. Then applique a heart at the bottom of the fan and it makes a beautiful baby quilt. Can't wait to see what you make.

  3. So much fun to create with an unplanned bounty! I like to use the dresden wedges to make fans (quarter or half fans) as well as the traditional dresden pattern. I have also used the fans with the drunkards path...pretty variations with the same starting pieces. Have fun!
