Here is the first orange and gray baby quilt. The lap size version of this is waiting patiently to be basted. Maybe by the end of June it will be finished. I like the look of scrappy backs, but basting them is tricky. They seem to stretch more, because of the weird cuts of fabric. I like solids backs for that reason.
Here is a picture of the front. This quilt is echo quilted in one direction, but not the other.
how are you basting? I remember I used to use the curved safety pins and often used the blue painters tape first to tape down the backing onto a solid floor.....
ReplyDeleteyou know you NEED a long arm soon :-)
small quilts up to lap size - I like to piece the backs - BUT larger quilts it is so much easier to go with the extra-wide all one piece.
ReplyDeleteLove your quilt, as I told you before, and also the back side. Beautiful! I send my big quilts to a friend with a long arm machine. I just quilt smaller quilts at home.
ReplyDeleteI really love this color scheme, and I especially love the backing!

I love this colour combo, cute quilt! I've only worked with whole backing pieces so I can't comment really :o)
ReplyDeleteDefinitely love the pieced backs. So much more interesting. This quilt is so cute and love the color combo.
ReplyDeleteWho won the May birthdaty giveaways? Just wondering.
ReplyDeleteI love the colors, especially with all the shading that going scrappy allows.
ReplyDeleteso pretty! some little baby with be very lucky to snuggle up with this quilt :) thanks for sharing your observations about pieced quilt backs. I usually try to make my backs with as few seams as possible, but I do admire the pieced backings I see around blogland.
