Birthday Giveaway!!!

The winner was picked and was emailed.  She was a facebook follower.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JULIA!!!

This little girl turned 3 today and if you have followed us for long, you know this is the reason we got into quilting.

For this giveaway we are giving a baby quilt from our Etsy shop valued at $85 or less, your choice. We would really like this go to someone that is expecting a new baby or has had a new baby. It can be for your own baby, or your grand kid or even for your best friends kids, just not for a charity quilt.

To enter will be simple we just want you to tell us if the baby is a boy or a girl.  If the baby is already born or if it is for a expecting mother.  Let us know whether the quilt will be for your own baby or the relationship between you and the baby.  An example would be, my best friend is having a baby girl in April.

Julia's Birthday is a giving tradition for our family.  We gave away 4 quilts when we had our followers pick her Birth Date & Birth weight.  We did not stop with our giving on her birth.  We also gave away a quilt for her first Birthday.  On her second Birthday we went cheap and only gave away some fat quarters.  We are now back to our classic of QUILTS!!  Please enter and win if you have a baby, know a new baby, or are expecting a baby in need of a quilt.  Please share this give away with all of your friends.

The giveaway will be open for 1 week.  So we will pick and announce the winner next Saturday! This is open anywhere in the world.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JULIA!!!

Dresden Petals from a lady at church.

A couple months back a lady from church approached me and asked me if I was still quilting.  I of course told her that I was.  She said that someone she knew (It might have been her mother?) had cut out some Dresden petals and they were in a box and wanted to know if I wanted them and if I knew what to do with them.

I am always up for the challenge and said yes. I was over whelmed with what I got but could not be more happy to take it off her hands.

What I got was more then I could have believed. There has to be a thousand of petals in this box many of  the same color group and many not.  I laid out all of the completed ones I found in the box.  I like the blue ones the best, but don't believe there are many in that color.

Knowing the fact that I like baby quilts I have enough to make a dozen or 2 using the Dresden.  I can't wait to see what we can make of them,  If you have suggestions let me know.

Rag Quilt Explosion on Whats on the Quilting Table #18

Many weeks back, Tanya and I sat down and decided that we were going to cut up all the bolts of flannel that we have and make rag quilt kits.  That  way we can easily grab a bag and me and the kids could put together a fast quilt..

When I first sat down to cut, I did not comprehend the amount of flannel that we had to cut.  It took me a entire Saturday afternoon and part of Sunday to finish cutting.

When all was said and done we had a huge pile of prospective quilts.

I am not sure of the final number, but more then 30 quilts will be made out of this pile.  They are all cut out and I just need to cut batting, Sew some X and then the rows together and presto another quilt.

Oh ya, then make Tanya snip all the edges.  It might take us months to get this pile dented.

Sawtooth Flimsy a quilting Acident

A few weeks back (oh did I mention the computer blew up) I set out to make a quilt for a lady at work that is having a baby.  She asked me for a Chevron quilt.

I had seen a picture of a Chevron that was not a HST which I had done in the past.  It used Rectangles cut into triangles.  I thinking I can do that.  I sat down and cut out all of my material (you know me I can make multiple quilts at once).  Any way after cutting it all out I went to lay out my Chevron quilt and had to laugh as I needed half cut one direction and half the other.  So taking my blunder to my EQ7 I created a new pattern which I am going to call my Sawtooth Quilt.  Hey it was almost a Chevron!

Computer Broken and other issues!

You may have noticed that over the last 2 weeks that I have only had my Link a Finish Friday posts.  2 weeks ago my computer got sick and died.  It started out with my hard drive throwing thousands of errors and then after spending a few days doing check disk and repair pieces of the operating system just started to fall apart.

My kind wife bought me a Solid State Hard Drive so that I no longer have a spinning disk in the computer to go bad.  Sadly I had no backups of my operating system and no copy to re install.  So my wonderful wife bought me a new operating system.  We went from Windows 7 which I love to Windows 8.1 which I can almost stand.

But you would think that is the least of all sad things that can happen in my life.  My favorite piece of software I had was Photoshop SE It came as one of the perks on the operating system so I had a legal version of it.  Because I installed a new operating system on a new hard drive (every thing else is old) I now no longer have a photo editing software.

Any way I have a pile of quilts, and a pile of pictures that I need to edit and a sad face that I don't have photo shop.  If any one can tell me their favorite free or extremely low budget picture editing software I would appreciate it.  I need to edit, crop, touch up and watermark my pictures what do you use and love at a price I can afford.
