You might need to sit down, two posts from Tanya this week. I've been slacking lately. At church we have a baby showers for the new moms and I was asked to be on committee that helps with them, I guess they thought that was I needed out of my comfort zone. I usually am better with dealing with the 10 and under crowd. We do freezer meals or tie a baby quilt. So far everyone has chose the meals.
Anyway this is a quilt I finished for my gift. I usually give a rag quilt, but chose to give this quilt that I refer to it as a practice quilt. My points are not the best, my plan to work with 8 1/2 inch square cut in half for HST's wasn't so great. I actually quilted this instead of having Richard. I did borrow his machine, my little Brother is great for simple things, but doesn't have the neck room or speed of his Janome. I decided to quilt the jack prints with tighter vertical lines, and leave open space on the white and owls. Overall it turned out quite well for a beginner. Yes, Richard did bind it. I still struggle there, but am getting more daring.
I am glad that it is Saturday. Jared's Birthday, James' Graduation, and the last day of school, and baby shower in one week is a lot of work. Then throw in Julia cutting 2 new teeth, not a good combo.
Richard taking over to show off some details in this quilt. Tanya did some amazing work on this quilt as seen here on the back you can see that she quilted some tight and other parts not. Tanya is new to this quilting stuff and I am sure if you wanted to be critical you could be. Tanya is critical enough for herself. I am proud of her and would like to publicly say so.
Here is a close up of some of the quilting you can see the edges there are some rough starts and stops but it looks wonderful.
Here is an example close up.

it looks great! I think Tanya should always have to post her quilts and not a negative word about them is allowed in the posts :)
adorable, great job! wish I could do that well!
look great to me , Tanya
What a great committee to be a part of and I agree it would be out of my comfort zone a bit too,but sometimes we gotta let God do the talking! lol
It is a fun loving quilt with the owls:)
What a great gift Tanya. I'm sure it will be much appreciated!
It looks great and I am sure the mother receiving this quilt will think so to. What a special gift.
Crazy time :) The quilting looks great! I think you did a fab job!
It is great to see Tanya starting to quilt her own quilts. I think she did an excellent job on this.
Love your quilt-what size were the
middle blocks? Just thinking to make the same blocks for a babyquilt!
Ohh-I see it now, all were hst-
Love it even more!
Tanya, your quilt is very beautiful and the quilting looks terrific. You really did a great job. This will be a very special gift for someone and I know they will treasure it.
Great job on the quilting! I am always too lazy to do all that detail work! Nice job.
Looks good Tanya! I have some of the owl fabric--love it.
What a fun quilt, and no need to be critical (although I know I am my own worst critic, so I understand). Love it!
The quilt is cute! I have a tutorial on my blog about hst, and your method should work perfectly. HST I cut the squares 1" larger than the finished size I want, so 9" for an 8" block, for instance. I sew a very scant 1/4", and then square up each one to the size I need (8.5" in the above example). That way they are perfect going in and line up with others. I think yours look fine, though.
Wow, so what do YOU do in your spare time, LOL...Your quilt is very pretty, I like the colors you chose. Thanks for keeping in touch.
Whoa Tonya!!!! You have been busy busy!!!! I love the baby quilt!!! It is beautiful and a beautiful baby is going to love it!!!! Hope things slow down a little for you!!!!
