Richards Quilt and a Silly Teenager try 2!

Having teenagers are fun.  They listen so well and always do what you want right?  Last week Tanya handed Rebecca our 15 year old the camera and asked her to take some pictures of my new quilt.  She went out side and took mostly pictures of the back.  We laughed so hard about it, that we had to post what she took.  Since last time we got no pictures of the front we figured we could hand the camera to our older son James who is 18 and see what he would do.

The first 3 pictures listed was the first try.  Our instructions were to lay the quilt out flat on the ground and take a picture of it (so we would have the whole quilt front in a picture).  We asked for 1 single picture and ended up with these 3 pictures of my rumpled up quilt.  After getting the camera back and looking and laughing (not one picture with it flat, which was all I asked) we again sent him out for another try.

As you can see below , we finally got a picture of the whole quilt.  Oh wait, he chopped off 2 corners, but hey its close enough.  The blocks are 10 inches each (orange block, gray block) the finished width is 58 x 70 which will make a fantastic lap quilt for me.  Too bad its the middle of the summer and all I want is the AC on.

Oh an of course since I sent him outside a 2nd time for 1 (yes I told him 1 picture) he had to take 2 so we ended up with 5 shots.  Can you see he was just dying to take a picture of the back too, just like his sister.

Orange and Gray Lap Quilt, Richard Sized

Rebecca was given the camera and asked to take pictures for us of this lap quilt.  I guess she like the back more than the front.

The only full quilt pictures are of the back  It is a fun back with some gray squares and some orange pieces of fabric.

Finally, Richard made a pieced quilt for himself. It turned out great.

Plus Plus

The plus quilt is finished.  This quilt is out of the Reunion line by Sweetwater.  It has echo quilting in variegated thread.  It has a somewhat scrappy binding, with part red part blue chevrons. This is one of my favorite quilts.  I am glad we are giving it to one of our own kids. James (our 17 year old is its recipient).

Zig Zag now I'm Mad!

This Zig Zag Quilt is finished.  After the first try at binding and getting mad,  Tanya unpicked it for me and made a new binding.
I bound it, washed it and it is now ready to give as a Christmas gift for one of Tanya's step sisters.  Originally I had planed to keep the tips of the diamonds intact and do a zig zag binding.  I of course did not attempt to learn how to do such a think I just went out and did it half way though I got mad took out my rotary cutter and chopped the end of the quilt off.

Here is close up of front.  Yes, I like it again.  Not what the original plan was but what works out in the end is good enough for me.

Here is a close up I did a echo quilting on all the seams.  This is one of my favorite ways to quilt.  You can see on the back how cool it looks too.

Tonight I also did a little work on a new quilt in fact the front and back is now done though I only have the picture of the front.  I am rushing on this one because I would like to deliver it when I drive to see the family for Thanksgiving to save postage.  We are dropping off I believe 8 quilts during Thanksgiving.

Paisley Parade

My newest quilt is done its name is Paisley Parade.  It is to be a gift to my friend Doug (if I can part with it).  This is the first of my "Man Quilts".  My wife when helping me find material for a quilt for me she kept telling me the purples and red's I was picking were not manly enough. So we have settled on black as manly so here we go a man quilt, read also about it here. In that post I talked about how Doug did not like the Manly blocks we got and he said Paisley is more manly.  So we went shopping any way the first of many quilts are done.

I have to give her credit for almost all of the material choices in the quilts I make.  This rag quilt she cut all by her self and that is a HUGE part of the job.   Any way enjoy the nap.  One last thing I now have is labels for my quilt.  I did a crappy job attaching it (talk about the worst zig zag job of my life).  One last thing before I end.  Remember to post your own completes on my Link a Finish Friday and hold me to my goal of 52 completes in 52 weeks of 2012.
