Baby Bricks Quilt

This was a custom quilt that was just finished up.  We ended up buying the whole fat quarter bundle of Reunion  by Sweetwater. This is one of Richard's favorite lines.  I don't know why we end up with customer orders on fabric that are 1 to 2 years old.  Good thing there is the Internet and we were able to locate it.

It measured 40 by 50 inches and is now on its way.  We did this quilt with a scrappy feel.  The pattern for this quilt is one designed by us and for sell on Craftsy.  You can follow the patterns link on top of the blog to find pattern. Richard and Tanya Quilts Patterns on Craftsy

Baby Shower Gift

This is a quilt made for a baby shower gift for church.  The front is made of charms in lavender and black prints.  I used leftover prints from the custom charm square quilt last month. The back is lavender minky.

It is the gift from the church.  It the first one I have made, the other new moms have wanted freezer meals.  I am really hoping she likes it.  She is not real traditional.

I made the top and Richard was nice enough to quilt it for me.  They wanted to have the top so that we could tie it, but I am not really into tying quilts so much anymore especially with a pieced top.. I like the machine quilted look.  Am I the only one that has ever not wanted a quilt tied after piecing the top?

Rag Quilt # 10 and winner.

This quilt is technically not from the flannel stash that Richard cut up, but wasn't purchased for this specific quilt.   The flannel is leftover from the twin sized custom owl rag quilt and the minky from the rainbow quilt completed earlier this week.

I had the quilt on the chair, but Julia decided I should take a picture of her instead, as she threw the quilt off.

I ended up taking her back in the house, so I could finish taking pictures.  Julia really likes this quilt, she seems to like pink.  She tries to claim any pink quilt.

I guess she didn't see me take the pictures on her crib or she would have been mad.

Now the exciting part. The winner of LAFF for August is Tanya of Tanya Quilts  in Co http://tanyaquiltsinco.blogspot.com/2013/08/end-of-summer-finish.html.  She has been emailed.

Rag Quilt from Stash #9

Some of you might have thought when Tanya forgot to post a quilt last week that we were running out.  She had ran out of pre-made quilts so over the last weekend she made 3 more.  This of course did not run the boxes of parts we have out.  My guess is we will get to at least 20 before running out.

Tanya did experiment a little with pictures this week.  We have been struggling with pictures and these pictures she took in our sewing room with a minky as a backdrop with the table she uses to baste on as a stand.

She took them in many different poses.  What interests me is your thoughts on the pictures.  On this page which do you like and which do you not like and why?

I like the one above.  I believe Tanya stuffed Julia's little chair under it to hold it up.  Any way lets hear what your thoughts are on which is the best picture.

Rag Quilt From Stash # 8 and a Winner

I bet you were starting to think that maybe Tanya ran out of flannel, so no rag quilt this week.  This one is made out of puppy print flannel and and gray tie dye.  Three of the gray squares have a bone with the word "Woof"  embroidered on it.

The batting in this quilt was a third layer of dark brown flannel to give it a fun contrast.

The exciting news is that the winner of the Modern Fabric Giveaway is

Custom Ordered Quilt Complete

It is interesting how some times the things requested are the simplest to do.  Tanya was recently asked to make a quilt that was similar to one we had on Etsy, but a little bigger.  This is just a simple charm square quilt, but it was requested using the same fabric line (2 years old) and white minky on the back.

The hardest part of this quilt was finding the material.  Tanya orders a few charm packs and when they showed up she realized it did not have enough of the flowers which is what the request was for so she ordered a few more.  Now we have the left overs of 5 charm packs, but we do have a happy baby with a new quilt.  These are from the Amela line a Me and My Sisters fabric line.  Tanya is a huge fan of theirs so I am sure she will use up the leftovers in something fun.

Speaking of happy babies and happy dad's I went by my baby's crib and was delighted to see her using the quilt I made for her.  She likes grabbing the quilts and throwing them on the ground (basically unfolding them), but has never really used them.  Look she is sleeping with it and better yet the pillow case I made her is on a pillow and she is sleeping on it.

My teen (baby) is also using her quilts that I have made.  She has a twin size version of the quilt that Julia is sleeping under.  Also on her bed is her skeleton quilt (that she made in school last year) and that purple in the bottom left corner is the lap quilt I made her.  It is fun to see something I made being loved and used.

Owl Windows Quilt

Here is the closeup of the Owl Quilt using the windows quilt Tanya made.

I like how some of the owls look like they are looking through windows.

On the back is a off white fabric with two strips of of the jack fabric.  It also has a simple applique of an owl on the back.

It is another fun quilt added to our Etsy store..

Striped Yellow Baby Bricks

Here is the second of the Yellow and Gray Baby Bricks Quilt out of Glimma.

In case you are wondering, no I don't think we know how to just do 1 quilt, we have to do multiples.

Here is a close up.

We (meaning Tanya) have been trying to take different pictures, so we have a variety of inside and outside shots.

This quilt has been added to our Etsy store.  The pile to be quilted is down by 3 after a productive weekend.

Rag Quilt #3 from Stash

This rag quilt has 3 fabrics on front, green with dots flannel, cat flannel and ivory minky.

The back is the green dot flannel.

One of our cats had to get in picture since it was a cat print.

I think this one turned out super cute.  I asked Jared what he thought of it since it has cats and is green, he told me it was for a girl since there were pink butterflies on it. Tune in next week to see next rag quilt from stash.

Rag Quilt with all Minky Back

Post by Tanya. This rag quilt is made of prints and solids from Glimma and some gray minky for the back. It is the leftover fabric from two tops that are in the to be quilted pile.

I did larger squares, 8 1/2 in squares and all minky for back.  This is the first time have done the back in minky. This took hardly any time to sew or to cut.

The hardest pat of this quilt was washing/drying and trying to get it to start ragging.  Quilt store quality cotton does not fray as easily as flannel or lower thread count fabric.

Hope you are having a great 4th of July.  Here are some pictures of our younger kids at bike parade and community breakfast, now to get some sewing in before fireworks.

Julia getting ready to go.

Jared waiting for parade to start.

Julia thought it would be more fun to push stroller than ride in it.

Matching Quilts

This post by Tanya, but quilt made by Richard. For Christmas, OK, quite a bit after Christmas, Rebecca's twin size quilt was finished by Richard.

Here is the baby size version for little Julia, the leftover fabrics with a twist.  Rebecca's quilt had matching fabric on all blocks. The back of Julia's is a pale blue, where Rebecca's was a white muslin.  We used a blue, red, white, and gray striped binding  on Julia's. Richard thought the binding looked too boring in the fabric store. I think it was just the touch the quilt needed.

Do you buy your bindings at the same time you buy the stuff for top or later as an after thought?  Do you take a block or the quilt with you or just try to find something that you think will match.  We have done it both ways. Only once or twice have we bought something that would not work. I usually don't take more than scrap of fabric if anything to the store.

For a little bit of a modern take, one spot is plain white, no block.  That and we ran out of fabric.  It is a line that is few years old.  The original fabric and some completed blocks came from someone in our quilt guild.  We added a lot of Kona white and manged to make two quilts from it, one for each of the girls.

I think I like the scrappy look of Julia's better.  She has so many quilts and is still at the stage she doesn't really like them yet. Hopefully she starts, before they are all too small for her.

My recent pictures have involved a lot in a white chair next to rosebushes, Richard claims it  is getting old.  I put a couple in anyway.  I like  my roses  and the chair, the weeds not so much.  I also had my helper cat in the last one.  Rat Cat likes to follow me.

Modern Baby Boy Patchwork Quilt

This is my newest quilt Reunion Baby Bricks it is made using the Reunion line by Sweetwater a Moda fabric. We love this fabric and have made many quilts from it.  It is made of my newest pattern  Baby Bricks.

This quilt sports a scrappy binding which is a new thing for me as I have never done such before.  I think it turned out pretty fantastic.  I did very tight straight line stitching and it makes the feel and look of this quilt fantastic.  This quilt will go on our Etsy store to replace some of the boy baby quilts we have given away or sold.

Tanya was able to go out into the sun today and take these wonderful pictures.  I like this last one of the quilt, just tossed onto the chair.  We have 4 other quilts in the works (tops completed just need to quilt) all using this same pattern to restock some quilts.  We have a few friends having kids soon, so need to get stocked up on baby quilts.
