New Quilt and Pattern on Craftsy
Today I would like to share my newest quilt and pattern. It is a Chevron Baby Quilt that measures 40 inch x 40 inch. It is out of a fabric line called Bungle Jungle. Three weeks or so Tanya and I decided we wanted to create 3 new patterns for our Craftsy Pattern Store. Tanya wanted them to be HST Quilts. This is the first of the 3. But like all projects we start we cant be simple. We are making 3 patterns x 3 quilts each. So will in the end have 9 quilts. All fabric is cut out and they are in various stages of delivery. This is the first.
Like all of my patterns of Craftsy if you go visit Craftsy and either on one of my projects or one of my patterns make a nice comment about them and then come back here and let me know you did so I will email you for free the pattern. There is a link at the top of my blog to the Craftsy store where you can see the pattern.

Baby Bricks Quilt
This was a custom quilt that was just finished up. We ended up buying the whole fat quarter bundle of Reunion by Sweetwater. This is one of Richard's favorite lines. I don't know why we end up with customer orders on fabric that are 1 to 2 years old. Good thing there is the Internet and we were able to locate it.
It measured 40 by 50 inches and is now on its way. We did this quilt with a scrappy feel. The pattern for this quilt is one designed by us and for sell on Craftsy. You can follow the patterns link on top of the blog to find pattern. Richard and Tanya Quilts Patterns on Craftsy

Color Blast Quilt - Blue and Yellow
Queen Size Color Blast Quilt created by Margaret Hayes
Today I would like to share the above Color Blast Quilt made from my Pattern for sell on Craftsy I first created this pattern and the first quilt from it below (Ugly as my wife told me then) while Tanya was pregnant with Julia and too tired to complain about my orange quilt. Tanya is not so much a fan of my Orange but she has completed one and mad a top for another out of the Color Burst (as she calls it) pattern which she loves.
The Blue and Yellow quilt above is a queen size version of the color blast quilt and wow can I say Amazing. It is the biggest to date that I know of made out of my pattern. It was made by Margaret Hayes who bought the pattern on Craftsy back in May.

Bright and Cheery Color Blast Quilt
One of my favorite patterns I have made is my color blast quilt. The first quilt I made out of this pattern was orange and Tanya hated it. I then made a blue batik quilt which I love and then a few tops that have not yet been finished. Well a few months ago, when I came home from work Tanya was making this version of it. She hated my version and I have to admit she has topped it, but she can't seem to get my name correct. She always refers to the pattern as color burst rather then color blast. Its kinda funny. I guess if she wants to burst rather then blast I will let her.
I loved her choice of binding and really love the corner stones she used (the wavy lines) it gave it a neat twist.
She of course made me quilt it and as normal she wanted to torture me and had pink minky on the back. About 2/3 quilted, I realized we had a pucker in the back and sadly she had to pull out almost 2 full rows of quilting and re-pin it to fix our pucker. I love the finished look of minky, I hate quilting it.
This quilt was completely made of scraps from our stash and will end up on our the etsy store.

Purple and Green Windows Quilt
This quilt is echo quilted so, there is a fun grid pattern that has really great texture with the striped fabric. The back is off white and shows the quilting.
We used the green vertical striped fabric for the binding.
This is one of my favorite quilts so far. This quilt was added to our Etsy shop. A little boy version is in the process now with owls. I ran out of fabric for the larger four patches.
We were happy to find out about a brand new quilt shop less than 2 miles from our house called ...and sew on. It is smaller, but very reasonable priced. The next closes to us is 6 or more miles away.

Pillar of Fire using the Helix pattern
I would like to introduce my newest quilt "Pillar of Fire" it was created using my Helix pattern (At least that is what I am going to call it for now). A few weeks ago I talked about the creation of this quilt in the post
My Orange and Gray Needs a New Name! As such I needed a name. I loved the suggestions and all of them would have fit great. I am going to call my pattern Helix. This quilt its definitely a Pillar of Fire.
This quilt has more then 30 colors in it. The blocks are 2 1/2 inch blocks of many different shades of orange, yellow, and red. The back of this quilt was a solid piece of orange fabric I do not remember what it was originally bought for, but it was decided that it was way too bright for it. But I think it fits this quilt well.
In my post This, That, and the Other Thing I talked about how I was having trouble deciding what binding to use I had bought the orange binding that I ended up using and was wimping out and thinking about something else, any way long story short I got talked into using it and doing a biased binding (which I had never before done, and it will be a while until I do it again). I sort of suck at reading directions on how to do it and I ended up with a serious mess on my hands with dozens of short pieces all sewn together. But in the end it looks wonderful.
I quilted this quilt with my quilting of choice, an echo quilt. Because of the small 2 inch view able blocks and echo's on all sides I ended up doing a lot of quilting on this little quilt and I think it turned out fantastic.
Last of all I want to thank my son James for taking the pictures of the quilt. I think he gave it a neat look and feel with his pictures. While I am thanking people, thanks goes to Ella from Throw a wench in the works for the name Helix which I will name my pattern. Also to Karen from The Recipe Bunny for suggesting the name Pillar of Fire for the quilt. And for giving me the confidence to attempt a biased binding Elizabeth from Such as Sew and Sew and to all others who help and give me suggestions along the way.

My Orange and Gray Needs a New Name!
On the left is my Completed top on the right is my pattern. I have made a PDF pattern for this. One of my big goals this year is to share more of my patterns. Like the last pattern I would like comments either good or bad. I will not take a critical comment bad. I want to improve my patterns and I want comments from those interested. This pattern can be found here.
Ingredients:
5 – 2 ½ inch squares in 33+ colors.
1 ¾ Yards for background color.
1 ½ Yards for the quilt back.
1 ½ Yards batting.
½ Yard for binding.
Instructions:
Begin by gathering the 33 colors for
you plus blocks. I suggest 33+ as when you are putting them together
you may not like the colors that are getting grouped together and I
would rather have some options to include or exclude a color
depending how it looks. For my quilt I choose Orange, Yellow, and
Red as my primary + blocks with Gray as my Background block. Other
ideas would be pink and Grey, purple and gray, black and whites. I
personally am a fan of orange and have more then 40+ different colors
so that was my pick.
Start by pining your 5 colors into
stacks (just to keep you from misplacing them) throw them into a
pile. Now grab 3 that you think would work next to each other and
start laying them out on your sewing table or design wall. I used
the above image as my guide for laying them out and I laid out just
the Oranges (not the gray's) first making about 4-5 rows at a time
and then sewing them together into strips. To make things go faster
I chain sewed 2 side by side blocks then the next 2 for 4 or 5 rows
worth. Then took the pairs of 2 and laid them back out again to make
sure they were still all in the correct order. Then I sewed pairs of
2 blocks etc tell I had full rows.
I then started sewing gray blocks
together in the same fashion (looking at the image as a guide) then
sewed them on each side of the rows. I then ironed each completed
row and then sewed the rows together in pairs etc. Eventually you
get done with the quilt top.
Baste and quilt as desired. My plan is
to echo quilt each seam. This will make a 36×48 inch quilt which
would work as a great baby size, smaller lap quilt or even a wall
decoration.
Oh last but not least I need a good idea for a name for this quilt as Orange and Gray just wont cut it.!

Color Blast Quilt
I have created a pattern for my Color Blast Quilt. I would like those that are interested to download it and then let me know what they either like or dislike about it. One of my New Year goals is to make more pattern so this is a first try and I need all the advice I could get. Any way keeping it simple.
Download it here.

Fire in the sky
This quilt was made from a block pattern called Disappearing 16 patch and following that link you can read about these blocks that I made in that post. This quilt top was was completed April 3rd and shown in my WIP wednesday post the funny thing I posted this quilt first yesterday on my etsy shop http://www.etsy.com/shop/richardquilts so that it could be picked as one of the choices on the giveaway I posted yesterday.
The responses to this quilt are happy to me. When I first made these blocks my wife told me they were horrible and ugly and only some one that is trying to keep from being shot while hunting would like it. I think its amazing and I hope all of you like it too.
Just in case your wondering no she does not think its so horrible now. In fact my wife Tanya is the one that took all of these wonderful pictures.
Which picture by way do you like best?
