Work In Progress Wed #38

You know it has come to my attention that I have been slacking on my Work In Progress Wed.  In fact it took so much time trying to find the last post number that I am sitting here trying to remember what I was going to talk about so lets um sit here and dig and see if there is something worth talking about.

Oh yes this will work.  I at the start of this year planed to make a Orange and Gray quilt for my bed (because sadly I still have not made my self a quilt yet) any way I wanted to make a quilt for me.  But then again as normal around my house Tanya vetoed the quilt.  So plans changed.

Tanya hates Orange and Gray but he decided my idea of a scrappy quilt was not that terrible.  So now I am making a brown and turquoise (with a splash of tan). Quilt for my bed.  If any one remembers I made a Richard's Star (yes I know some what conceded naming it after myself but hey I am new at this)  block and giant quilt block.  Heck lets just show you.

Any way Tanya and I plan to do brown and turquoise checker board out of the large 10 x 10 blocks. and then instead of the yellow star in the center it will be out of tans.  Any way that is the plan I think I have 8 or so of the big turquoise blocks, but I am still working on getting enough brown and tan.

Lets see what else is going on.

Oh yes this is a good one and it follows along with my bock (again I could not resist calling it after me) In 2 weeks from now (well week and half) HMQS is going to be held here in SLC, UT.  I have 2 quilts that will be in the show.  My helix quilt will be on display with other quilts from the SLMQG and I have a quilt in one of the contests.  The above is all that I will show for now and will talk more about the quilt after HMQS starts (mostly because I never took a picture of it before I mailed it off) lol. Remind me to take a picture next time before mailing it away.

The last thing I will share is something that Tanya has been off and on working on.  It is a sorta art quilt with a butterfly on it.  She was sewing the butterfly down the other night.  I cant wait to see it when its done.

Any way thanks for stopping bye on this WIP Wednesday.

Late in the day work in progress #37

This post is by Tanya

On Saturday I got some sewing done.  I made a simple gender neutral baby top in yellows and greens that I cut up about two  or three weeks ago.

I have been busy with life and my 1/4 inch foot was MIA.  My problem is I currently share a desk and sewing machine with my Daughter Rebecca.  Two people that are not good at cleaning up is not a good thing.  I had tons of scraps from her projects, and at least 6 different colored bobbins and several spools of thread scattered along desk top.  For some reason my space whether it be  my computer area, my dresser, and my sewing desk seem to say to kids put all stuff you don't know what to do with on any one of the three.

Anyway I cleaned off my sewing desk this weekend, we went through several scrap boxes.  We threw away a ton of stuff that was too small for 2 1/2 in squares or string blocks or even stuff to use in appliques.  As new quilters we saved everything, including batting scraps too small to do anything with.  We use a lot of larger batting scraps in rag quilts.

Here are a couple of pictures of Julia with the bear Rebecca made her.

Richard has been busy cutting up 2 1/2 inch squares.  He has now quilted half of Rebecca's twin quilt.

Work in Progress Wednesday #36

For this weeks Work in Progress Wednesday I though I would show you a few pictures from my Gray/Orange (well orange, yellow, red) Plus quilt. A few months ago at on of my SLMQG meetings during show and tell commented that the quilt I was showing was the most "Modern thing" she had seem me do.  I could have taken that as a insult.  Iinstead I took it as a challenge that I need to try some more modern things.  Well any way above was part of the next modern thing that I will show off.

Above is the bottom and below is the top (Yes I could have put them in the right order, but what fun would that be).  Tanya has been working the past few weeks on getting our Etsy Store more organized and I have been working on not feeling rushed.

Work In Progress Wed #35

Tanya and I have slacked in our WIP Wednesday posts the last month.  We are going good this week though.  Tanya completed her 2nd top this week a plus quilt out of the last (almost as Tanya says, she thinks she still has a doll quilt left of it) of the Twirl Fat Quarter Bundle she had.

Tanya is stealing all her Plus quilt Ideas from me.  I have been planning a plus quilt, but not quite the whole thing plused.  Above is the first 5 rows sewn together and then the next 4 almost sewn together.  This quilt is small more of a baby or wall hanging size.  These squares are 2 1/2 inch whereas Tanya did 4 inch blocks.

I got some of my orange blocks done for my orange and gray quilt I talked about earlier.

I have somewhere near 14 blocks of each orange and gray now.  My plan is a twin size quilt so I have a lot of blocks to go.  This project may take some time.  Plus I still do not have near enough grays for my random taste, I need to go shopping again for them.  Especially if I plan to do a purple and gray quilt too. (Oh my wife says pink and gray? hum 2 quilts more?)

Tanya was not settled with just having 2 tops done this week.  (she did finish the cowboy baby quilt she should be able to take pictures and post it Thursday) so she made another top this one is a Rainbow quilt.

So Tanya and I have been busy this week.  I have a ton of UFO's sitting around that need finishing and 2 contest quilts I need to get started on so this will be a busy month for me.

Work In Progress Wed #34

Tanya and I are fully in Christmas mode.  I set the lofty goal of giving every one of the brothers and sisters and their kids a quilt and by my calculations we need to make a lot more quilts. Here are a few of many projects we are working on.

So instead of talking much today I am just going to get to chopping up fabric and see what I can get done.  Tanya and I have this week finished up many quilts and we plan to finish up a few more.  For example I have 3 quilts to bind today and then I must finish some of the blocks that I am currently working on.

Tanya is of course beating me out on overall number of quilts.  This rag quilt for a nephew is sewn, still needs to be cut and washed.   So no rest for me off to work I go.

Work In Progress Wed #33

Today's post is by Richard and he has succeeded the race this month for quilt finishes to Tanya.  Yes we are in election mood here watching CNN to find out the results.

As such it is only fitting to show off our patriotic quilt top.  This was started by Richard as part of the beginner quilt along and he failed to keep momentum and then finally put the blocks he completed in the "Not used block box" which is half full of 12 1/2 in blocks.  Tanya in her zeal to beat out this month's quilt race pull the blocks out and improvised a few blocks to finish it.   I have to say she did a fantastic job.  Not to let that be the least that she has worked on lately she also gave me this quilt to show off.

This is another rag quilt from Tanya it is not cut or washed yet though.

Not to be shown up too much, I did cut this marvelous stack of 4 inch blocks.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Now to show you who won in our giveaway last week.  For the Glorious Autumn Block Party last week we drew numbers tonight.

Congrats Vivian

Tanya's Been Working Wednesday

Tanya has been showing off this week.  She has made not 1, not 2, but 3 rag quilts.   While they are not completed.  They are sewn together, but only one has been cut.  I have been busy the last few days programming and have not spent enough quality time quilting this week, so I think she is trying to make up for it.

Each of these quilts are different,  Some of them big, some of them little.

But each of them cute, because each of them were created by my wonderful wife.  Now I guess I need to stop talking and start sewing.

WIP Wednesday #31

Posted by Tanya

Additional borders were added to this 25 square rainbow quilt top to make it a little larger.  Most likely this quilt will go to Richard's Mom, for Christmas. It is basted and ready for quilting.

The purple and pink quilt top from the Beginner QAL is finished.  Richard sewed the two outside borders on it and everything else was completed  by me. I still need to finish Richard's two that he started and start another for Rebecca for Christmas.  He does much better at all one type of block, than a slow based sampler. It is basted and ready for quilting. It is also a Christmas gift, for my sister.

The plus quilt is about half way done with quilting.  We decided that it is going to be part of James' (17 yr old) Christmas present, good thing he never reads our blog. Richard was trying to decide what color of thread to use on this quilt and was having a hard time deciding, so I helped him out and told him to use a variegated thread we had on hand.

This pile of fabric is for the pinwheel quilt for my Mom.  We found a block that is made of half square triangles, so no weird angles.  We are going to do half of the blocks in tan and half in the light green.  The plan is for me to start cutting it this weekend, if not sooner.
This blue train rag quilt has been sewn, but not cut yet.  It is for a baby shower on Saturday, unless it doesn't get done and I end up using one out of our Etsy store.
This bright rag quilt with blue, yellow, green, and lizards is for another Nephews Christmas gift. I have three of nine rows done. He is four and likes all thing creepy and crawly. Some have asked why so many rag quilts.  They are easy and something I dare do. They are also what we have sold in our Etsy store. I am comfortable with beginning piecing, but not yet up to quilting a top. I have to give Richard time to catch up on the quilting.

This is a Halloween panel that Richard was having fun trying out different stitches on his machine.  He still needs to bind it, so we can hang it on our wall, before Halloween in over. The ghastly quilt for my other sister is on temporary hold, because I ran out of pins to baste with.  The zig zag quilt Richard is mad at, is patiently waiting for me to unpick the binding and prepare a new one.
I think about every free moment between now and December 24th is going to be spent sewing, to try to get these and the other planned quilts/gifts ready.

WIP Wednesday #30

While on vacation last week Tanya and I went through our list of items that are started, but not finished but need to be.  I set a goal to make 52 quilts in 52 weeks and I am well on my way to that.  I also set a goal to make every family member a quilt for Christmas.  It just dawned on me that its October and if I really plan to have my Christmas presents done I must get in gear.

This is one quilt that is close but not done.  It is now all quilted and just needs binding.

This quilt that Tanya and I finished the top on vacation we need to finish for Christmas.

This is one of my color blast quilts that is just in need of binding.

Over the weekend we realized that our work in progress instead of a short list is a long book.  SO I must stop yacking and I must go sew a few more things together.

Work in Progress Wednesday #29

Today is WIP Wednesday and sadly I have little progress to report.  I have not yet bounced back from the last few weeks with the stress of my dad and the rush of things to do that come with it.  I have nothing new to report but I have been working.

I have in the past done a number of quilts with 2 1/2 inch blocks.  Over the past 2 weeks in the little bit of time I have had between every thing else going on I have been going through the scrap bin and cutting all the little pieces into 2 1/2 inc squares.

I have not yet decided exactly what I will make with them but i have a few thousand squares cut and I have more that will be cut in the next few weeks.  I am debating on doing more of the 5 x 5 color blocks or just a random color block and doing a full quilt that way only time will tell.
I have a few days off work this week with nothing planed and I have been looking at the mound of Ghastlies that I have on the corner of the desk and it has come time that I must make a ghastly quilt (or 4) and I am pondering over what to do.  If you have ideas or suggestions let me know as I am still stuck on what I want to do but will at the very least complete one top this weekend (that is my goal any way)
My true desire of the day is just to feel energized and not feel so tired.  I have emotionally gone over board the last 2 weeks and I just need to sit down and do nothing for a few days and get caught back up with life.  I so need this vacation.
