Batik Quilt Done at Last

I have at last got my Twin Size Batik quilt done (ok, it was done 2 weeks ago), but I made this top almost a year ago.  Because of the size it sat for a long time without a back and then when that was done.  It again sat for a long time as Tanya worked up her desire to baste it.  Above it is pictured on my sons Bunk Bed.

Trying out the new quilt rack that was found at thrift store.  This quilt is made with dark and light grey batik material and then 10 inch blocks at a diagonal of random batik fabrics out of 2 1/2 inch squares.

A close up of  one of the square blocks.  Each of blocks is quilted in the square design.  It took a long time to quilt them as I quilted down each side, spiraling in and I underestimated the effort of turning the quilt in circles.

It cover the top of a queen size bed.

The back is a combination of the light and dark batiks.

Twin Size little pink owl's Quilts

This week you get a extra rag quilt post.  In addition to Quilt #4 from the stash you have its big sister.  #4 was finished a couple weeks back and was just waiting its turn when we were commissioned on Etsy to create a Twin Size version of it.  This picture is the quilt laying on my queen size bed, so its a bigger sized twin and will work as a great quilt to hang over the bed.  This quilt like its little sister is already sold.

Another late Christmas Finish

I have finally finished Rebecca's Christmas present and from the look on her face I don't think she will let me have it back to take a better picture of it.  I started this quilt a couple months ago.  The blocks were given to me from one of my guild members at the SLMQG I would tell you there name but I sadly can't remember.  Speaking of my memory I am not one that is good at all at remembering names which often times causes me frustration because I hate to admit I can't remember a name.  But since I am being honest It did take me 3 dates to remember Tanya's name (I wrote her name on my hand before I went to pick her up so that I would not forget it.  Admittedly I should have written it some where she would not notice as she still teases me from time to time.)  But since she is still with me 20 years later I am hoping the guild member that gave me these will forgive me too.  Any way if any one in the guild reads this please remind me who gave them to me so I can thank them properly.
The reason this quilt has taken so much time to finish is that it is the largest quilt that I have ever made.  It was really hard to quilt.  I realized that the space I quilt it just does not accommodate the size of this quilt.  And another thing I realized is quilting a huge quilt makes you really hot with the thing draped all over you.  The whole time I have been making this quilt I have been teasing Rebecca that this was a donation quilt.  When I finished it she grabbed it and screamed MINE! and ran off and would not let me get with in arms reach of the quilt.  Even now i am not sure where she hid it.  Oh well hope she loves her late Christmas present.

Dayton's Quilt

Dayton's Quilt for the lack of any other name I could think of is finally done.  I have decided I will never do a rag quilt this big again and I am going to be more picky about materials on the next one I do also.  This quilt ended up 12 blocks wide by 14 blocks long.  I did not want to do the 6 inch blocks (5 inches after the 1 inch in the seams) that I have done on all the other rag quilts I have done so I went out and bought new rulers I bought 8 1/2 inch wide square and long ruler and used to make these blocks.  My brother picked out boring black flannel for the back and he picked 3 fabrics.
The black was a great material the other 2 not so great I don't think they were 100% cotton and not being all so skilled at this I did not know any better.  The blue material is quite stiff and even after washing 2 times never did fray at all the red material was a little better.  You can also see the white batting that my brother bought sticking out the seams on many of the squares.  Maybe because the quilt is so huge it did not wash and their for fray well.  But hey its done.  Any way this is a big one for me and I am happy to call it my first finish for March.  It measured in at 90 inches wide and 105 inches long.

Blues and Browns

Quilt, pillow case, and 2 small pillows
Quilt and matching pillow Case
Today I finished my first full quilt. I have been trying to get my wife to make quilts for our family for a few years now and she keeps telling me that she does not sew.  While when thinking about what I wanted for Christmas this last year I decided what I really wanted was a quilt. So I have decided that I will just quilt my own. I have now started 5 different quilts. (funny thing is this was the 4th that I started first to finish) I have yet to find me some quilting frames and with out those I can not finish any of the first few that I started so this got to be the first one finished. My son picked out the colors for this quilt with the request of browns and blues. And my wife and I went fabric shopping with my wife making the final decision on the materials. I have learned al ot and made many mistakes. But this will always proudly be my first quilt. Any way the quilt needs a name and for lack of originality "Blues and Browns" will be its name until my kids or wife comes up with something better. for it.
I never posted this originally so here is a edit.  This quilt is for Richard "James" Healey my oldest son, he is 16 year old and in high school this year.  The pictures of the bedroom are his room and his bed.  Cant believe he cleaned the room for the picture.
