Have you ever had one of those days or weekends?

Tanya over the weekend asked me to sew together a rag quilt for her as her machine just hates the thickness of the quilts.  I had all the rows sewn and was about to sew the rows together when I realized that I made a mistake.

As you can see in the pictures above the quilt looks cute and all but the back that is solid purple has the rag part of the rag quilt.  Talk about having a bad day.  I used a locking stitch, so a seam ripper really wasn't an option with flannel.

To make things worse earlier in the day I was finishing the quilting on my diagonal top.

It was looking just fantastic.  I was quilting rows side by side and it was taking me a lot of time with as much stitching as there was.

As you can see it was looking fantastic then I ran into a little snag.  No really, I snagged my finger on one of the pins in the quilt.

Yes those little red dots are me bleeding all over my wonderful quilt.  I wanted to cry.  Tanya tells me she will try to fix it, but instead of a nice quilt to sell I might have a quilt for myself.  Have any of you bleed on one of your quilts before?  I was bleeding for a little while, before I noticed it which is why its all over the place.

Speaking of wanting to cry my old friend Fire in the Sky that I have had listed on Etsy sold.  I was so sad to see that I sold it.  I know when you sell something you are suppose to be happy.  This quilt was in 22 treasuries and had 99 admire and  that does not count me.  So today I cry as Tanya puts it into a box and ships it away.

Free Class Day on Craftsy

I just discovered something cool and I wanted to share it with you.  I have recently started using Craftsy to share projects and sell patterns.  Well on Saturday, May 18th you can sign up for a free class up to a $39.99 value.

Now to decide what class I am going to take?  Any suggestions?

And if you happen to read this post after the free day is over here are 3 free classes I have taken that are always free.

1) Craftsy Block of the Month 2013 with Laura Nownes - As a new quilter I suggest this class as it will give you some great hints and suggestions on block construction throughout the whole year.
2) QuiltCon Lecture Series 2013 - I am a member of the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild and as such was sad that I was not able to go to QuiltCon.  So at my request (OK, well maybe it had nothing to do with me) they were kind enough to put together a lecture series so that I did not have to completely miss out on the experience.
3) Creative Quilt Backs with Elizabeth Hartman - This week is HMQS her in Salt Lake City, Utah (well Thursday - Saturday of this week) as a special treat the SLMQG was lucky enough to get Elizabeth Hartman to come talk to our guild tonight!  So I am so excited I get to meet her tonight and learn directly from her.  For the rest of you, you can enjoy this free class.

Fun with family at HMQS

Jared and Tanya though that I needed to take a picture with my quilts hanging at HMQS

Jared thought that it was funny that he had to touch the quits even "Our Quilt" with gloves.  I think I took about a dozen pictures of him with Pillar of Fire, he just kept making me take more pictures

It is interesting walking around looking at quilts with Tanya and realizing how much different our tastes are for quilts.  The ones she stopped and took time to look at were not the ones I did.

We also brought Rebecca with us she is a typical teenage girl mad that dad is pointing that camera at her.  If looks could kill, I think I would be dead.

She was happy thought to show off her bling when she was done.  Both Tanya and Rebecca did some of the make and take classes.

Julia after a few hours just had to get out of that chair and she just wanted to run and run.

And run and run.

Oh ya as I said, Jared kept dragging me back to get more pictures with my quilt.  Jared and I have plans to make him one of these out of green.  We have already cut and sorted all of the green. I got the gray for the background for my B-Day as a present from Jared.  It is kind of ironic that it was from him to me, so that I could make a quilt for him.

Oh ya, here is Tanya working on her make and take.  The first one she did was a pouch made on the embroidery machine.  The second was a patch key chain also made on the embroidery machine.

Of course since he was not in the last picture, we had to take another picture of Jared.

And then of course another with mom

Look another quilt Tanya likes and I just walked past.

WHAT!!!!!!!!!! Some one ate the corner of this quilt!  (Jared was displeased with this quilt.)

Well before I get eaten too, I will end this post here.  (No children and only a few quilts were damaged in the making of this post!)

Odd Man Out / Perfect Partners

Now to finally show off my HMQS challenge quilt.  This is a quilt with a story.  It represents how I feel at times, in the quilting community.  I am the Odd Man Out.  In my quilting guild I am alone, but included but at the same time excluded.

When I get home, I stand alone with my Perfect Partner.  Tanya and I stand united (most of the time, she might argue this) in all that we do.  We are here to support each other and make each other strong.

I was given 4 fabrics as part of the challenge.  I was allowed to add up to 3 to go with it.  One of those I added was the butterflies.  I wanted something to stand out and be different.

I was some what terrified that I would mess up the quilt and only quilted it a little.  I think it would have turned out much better, had I spent more time and quilted it more.  If you are not familiar with "Richard's Star" my block pattern this is a free pattern I give away on Craftsy, follow that link to download it.

I knew when I did this challenge I wanted to use a block I created and I am so happy how well it turned out.  No it was not a winner and I could have (and should have) done better.  Being terrified I was afraid to do something different and unique.  Next time I will be a little more free in  the decisions I make.

Tanya used her machine to make me the label for the quilt, I think it turned out pretty good.
