My stash is expanding

I have to start off and say I hate face book and social networking in general.  I do not know why, but today I will have to give it a little slack.

My wife loves to read facebook.  She is not a big poster, but she follows along with every ones life (hum I love my blog, but hate facebook, I guess I don't get this any way) The other day some one our family knows puts a face book post saying that they have some fabric that their mother no longer wants that might be good for quilting.
So my wife asks me if I am interested.  Ya of course I was.  What I got is fantastic.  They commented that its old and out of date, but hey I think its wonderful.  I got a huge bin full of fabrics I went though the whole basket and all I can say is I have ideas for a few dozen projects and I will just dent the pile.
My wife's and my taste differ greatly so it is interesting what excites me and what excites her.  Their are a ton of different plaid fabric which I love (wife does not lol).  All I could think is wow that would be fun to do a quilt with 20+ different plaid fabrics.  Any way some of this material is 10+ years old some is even older and it is cool so excited.
Not to be totally out done, the mail box did bring me a surprise too.  In the mail I got my buttons from Africa I won these 2 months ago (the first crafty thing, while any thing I had ever won).  These buttons made from a company Incomparable Buttons are hand made in Africa.  They are just fantastic I won them as a sponsored giveaway from Sew Cal Gal that link will take you to the post about these buttons.  I was 1 of 10 people to win and I was so excited.  They are worth the wait.

My wife Tanya's Maiden name is Button. Buttons are exciting to me.  I want to make a wall hanging of some type out of them.  My father in law gave me a wall decoration long ago that read "Button Button who has the Button".  He pointed out to me that I got the Button and that I am to honor and take care of her forever.
 I love her deeply.

A Twist of Red - A Giveaway Quilt

Today's quilt is the 3 of 4 of our giveaway quilts.  We are on the home stretch now and our giveaway is almost ready to end.  Or at least Tanya hopes that it will end soon.  That will  means Julia is out and she can sleep with out her back hurting and not able to get comfortable.
A Twist of Red is a twist on my Man Quilts.  If you look at the squares the only real pattern is the paisley blocks with red behind them.  All of the black and white squares go in a dark, then light pattern but none of them have more then 6 or so of the same print going across the quilt.  I was able to use up all of the left over blocks from my quilt.  I still have in the Man Quilt box squares in 6 different colors to make 1 more quilt.
The kids took the pictures this morning while we tried to get ready on the day after daylight savings time. All of us are tired, so sorry for the slightly blurry pictures.  My son says tonight in the sun after school he will take some more pictures.
Tanya thought I was funny when I wanted the red behind the paisley with the gray behind the black and white blocks, but I think it turned out wonderful.  What do you think?

Healey Family Giveaway Guesses

Not a recent picture of us, but this is the Healey family as of the summer of 2009 on vacation (taken some where on the Pacific Cost highway in California).  We are now waiting on a baby to pop magically out of Tanya.
We are having a contest to give away 2 quilts to 2 lucky people.  I have made 2 quilts and have 2 more almost completed as the choice for the winner.

These are the 4 quilts the 2 on the left are completed the 2 on the right are almost.  The rag quilt is now in the wash and should be posted Monday. The 5 X 5 color um what ever (name not yet decided on the not complete ones yet) has all but the green and purple blocks quilted and will finish those tonight and maybe bindings.  So looking like a Tuesday complete.  But before its too late, I wanted to give the 5 of our family the chance to make guesses as to the due date.

Jared's Guess is that Julia will be born March 20th at 2:02 pm.  And that she would weight a few small watermelons.  He has said this a few times now and I still laugh each time.

Rebecca says Julia will be born March 25th at 5 pm and weight in at 8 pounds even.

James Say's Julia will be born March 23 at 7:05 pm and weight 8 pounds 9 ounces.

Richard's Guess is Julia will be born March 23rd at 4:15 pm and weigh in at 8 pounds and 6 ounces.

And not to be last, but the very best, my own personal baby incubator.

I swear she was smiling when I took this that is not a scowl I promise.

Any way Tanya thinks Julia will be born March 22nd at 5:15 pm and weigh in at 8 pounds 6 ounces.  It seems that Tanya and I are in tune with the weight and just 1 day 1 hour in time.

Unless we go into labor sooner, you still have time to make your guess so stop waiting.

Yes I am working hard to get these last 2 quilts done here is a picture to end the post to prove it.

Whats Black and White and Red All Over?

When I think of that question my first thoughts are grade school and the first thing that comes to mind is a Skunk in a blender.  But my wife does not approve of that one so I guess a News Paper will work for a more safe answer.  When I asked Jared the same thing he came running into the room with this item on the left.  So today's teaser is my newest rag quilt.  It will be another giveaway choice.  So now 2 of our giveaway quilts are finished and 2 of them are on the home stretch.  After making this post and making a post on Julia's blog (oh did I mention the cute little one has her own blog?)  Tanya had a baby shower and with in an half hour of this post, I should have a baby shower post up there.  There are some cute posts from my kids to their yet to be born sister.  For those that will later want to see pictures of Julia I will put some here but most of the pictures will go there.  So you may want to book mark it.
My newest rag quilt (name not quite decided, but close) will have our red paisleys.  As I hinted yesterday while at Joann's I finally found more of that fabric and I bought every inch they had, which was just shy of 2 yards.  They also had flannel on sale and bought some red for one of the other projects still sitting on hold.  Its the Case Equipment quilt, but before I got home from work had the bright idea to combine the paisleys and the red as a sandwich and then random light's and dark's from my Man Quilt stash (figure we can spruce up them a little) after all Paisley Parade was a popular quilt.
While writing this post my sons cat Chubby Wubby decided to knock something off the dresser and that just deserved a picture.
At the baby shower one of the many things Tanya got were these 2 burp cloths.  Not that my wife's were not wonderful but these are amazing.  I am not a hand sewer or crocheter but these are just fantastic.
These are the back's and front's of both of them.
Both are frogs and both are very cute cant believe I cant wait for them to be thrown up on.  The joys of parenthood.
One last reminder http://juliadawnhealey.blogspot.com/ is Julia's blog and I will post the pile of gifts and a couple pictures of my wife over there in just a bit.
