Pink & Gray Hearts Quilt

Sometimes I think the sun is helpful for the pictures some times the glare distracts from the quilt this is one of those times.  This quilt is one of Tanya's newest projects.  She got way excited when I started my Etsy store and this quilt (once done posting here) will be my newest quilt of Tanya's Design to hit the store.  http://www.etsy.com/shop/RichardQuilts

This quilt is beautiful to bring out the neat grey in each square she used grey flannel as the batting for this one the squares consist of pink and gray hearts, A little kitten and flower print and pink tie dye.  The full back consists of the pink tie dye.

Other then posting the quilt my plans for today is to start on new 2 1/2 inc square blocks for another round of granny squares and 5 x 5 blocks.  Now that the last of my 2 Granny Square quilts is done I am now in the mood to make more (I know scary thought that bus left the building) but nope it is circling back.  Any way off to spend the night watching TV and chopping and sorting a million little squares.

A Pinwheel Fail and some Ducks

This is Tanya's Pinwheel fail.  My wife is loving designing quilts but still will not sew.  So we have worked out a deal If I do her projects she will Iron them and put them into piles so that I can sew them up for her.  We are making a Pinwheel quilt for her and she had a huge pile of pieces.  I first sewed the HST then had her iron then I sewed the top 2 and bottom 2 together. and she ironed again.  She helping me pinned the top and bottom half together so that they would not get mixed up.  I thinking she pinned them so that they would be where they needed to be sewed them all together I ended up with 8 broken pinwheels above and 12 correct pinwheels.  After all the hard work of making them for her quilt we had a fail.

Not to be beat my wife decided we would turn it into a quilt for the young women's auction to earn money to go to girls camp this year.  Its next Saturday (the day before my birthday, hum maybe I need to have a giveaway or something to celebrate, wait distracted) And originally we were going to give the 2 not so loved quilts left over from Julia's Birthday giveaway.  But she wants to impress the others in the ward (church) to show that her man can quilt.  So we are giving a Monster Quilt (in the wash will be done for a finish Monday) and this Quilt which I need to finish before wed (HMQS show that I have 2 class at Thursday and Friday and don't want to put it off tell last moment)

Went to the post office yesterday and found these in line for the mail drop boxes

By the time they finally made it though the lane they had a row of 4 cars backed up waiting on them.  The mother duck tried to jump the wall in the first picture but the little baby's just could not jump high enough to get up to the grass.

But it was nice to see that all waited for them to pass.  They are cute if you look close you can see she has 12 baby's I love ducks.

This last weekend was Scout A Rama and my 2 middle kids decided they wanted to be Crash Test Dummy's and I could not resist taking a picture of it.  My son Jared wanted to do it again.  Just as long as he does not ever do it in real life in my car I am good with it.

Granny Squared and a Winner, A block, A sell, and 2 Classes

Wow what a name for a post.  Its destined to be long so we will start with the best and then end with random pictures.

My 2nd Granny Square quilt is named "Granny Squared"  Hum not the best name but my wife hated every one I picked and I know who the boss is (and she would just edit it out if I put one of mine any way) so I might as well call it what she liked.  I was going to quilt this diagonally and I did like 7 rows before getting frustrated and my wonderful wife Tanya picked them out (maybe that's why I will let her name it).   After not being able to figure out how to run a straight diagonal (mostly because my table was full of junk, so most my quilt was hanging off making it go off weird angled).  So I have some straight lines going up and down and right and left.  Not quite as cool as the spiral I did for the other one, but my wife was not up to helping and this one has waited too long (need the quilt to go with me to visit grandma soon to show her the baby).

I will put up more pictures of this quilt later down in the post, but first I promised to pick a winner for the giveaway for Angel Baby Boutique Giveaway  Jared and Mom did the picking while I was working on packing a box up will talk more about that in a sec.

My son Jared insisted on the action shot of him stirring the names in the bowl.  LOL any way Joyce Carter, and Bea Quilter won I will email them after posting this post.  Gratz to the winners, thank you every one for visiting my sister in laws shop.

I received yesterday my 2nd block in my 12 1/2 inch block swaps I participate in. I asked for star block I received this wonderful star.  Now to figure out how she made it as I love it and would like to make another one.

Now to what I was working on when my wife was figuring out prizes.  I opened a Etsy store last week or so and I have listed so far 7 items 6 rag quilt's (baby size) and 1 pair of hot pads.  I was excited when at work, I noticed in my email that I had sold my first item.

Yep I had my first sale I am so excited and I think my wife even more.  She picked the colors on this one and sewed most of the blocks up.  So I guess while my wife got a sell?  While I am still excited all the same.  I am selling my small baby quilts (about 33 x 33 inches) for 40$ plus shipping cost.

Lastly for my daily excitement, I registered for 2 classes at HMQS the first one I have Class #226
A Soldier's Star Taught by Deonn Stott will start on Thursday morning at 8am and the 2nd class I am taking  Class #314 Free Motion Quilting on the Domestic Machine Taught by: Paula Reid.

I am still nervous to go (I know I should not be but am any way). Some people don't take me serious, because I am a Guy that Quilts (you should see the looks I get from some of my co-workers)  When I go to quilt stores or buy material and my wife is there they look at her and ask what she is making.  She always giggles and points at me and says he is the quilter ask him.  It always ends with a gasp really you quilt?

Any way off I go to the Quilt Show.  I am excited to go look at all the quilts and materials up for sell.  I am a visual person I have to see it.  I like following blogs that have more pictures then text (though I do read most the text) when behind I just skip the pictures looking for that next thing to wow me.  I hope to be wowed at the show.

Enough of me blabbing, More pictures of my pretty quilt Have a great weekend.

Mama's Little Monsters

Tanya found this cute monster flannel the other day on our little shopping trip and she has been playing around trying to decide how to use them.
She decided on a green flannel tie dye back
And a rainbow of colors to match the monsters.  She wanted a orange but could not find a tie dye in that color.
This quilt turned out adorable.  We ran out of one of the colors so the 2nd quilt we will be making will be similar with a different coordinated color.
We have a young women's auction in a couple weeks and we are going to donate one of the two monster rag quilts  and the pink cupcake that was part of the Julia arrival giveaway.  It was one of the 2 left over quilts.
This quilt is so cute it will be hard to part with.  It will be listed on my http://www.etsy.com/shop/RichardQuilts store for $40 dollars.  I sure hope the young women's auction we can triple that.

Oh speaking of auctions the Autism Charity Quilt I made ended up going for $125 I was so pleased it was one of the highest amounts for single items in the silent auction.
