Baby Doll Quilts

Posted by Tanya.
For Christmas we decided to make one lap quilt for each of my six step siblings and
to do pillowcases for each of their kids.  I changed my mind on Saturday and decided I was going to do something different for the under 5 crowd of girls.  I looked through our stash and found a couple of fat quarters with no plans and some leftover fabric from other projects and made some simple doll quilts.  I cut up 5 inch squares and made simple tops.

They are all similar. Three of the four have yellow backs, and the other is white with pink dots.

I tried a no bind method, so not completely straight, and I only ended up with one batting on the outside, (oops).  It was easily repaired.  Richard did a quick echo quilting on them. I was going to try, but the walking foot for my machine doesn't work right.   I think the little girls will enjoy their doll quilts.

Speaking of little girls.  I won a giveaway from Cristin at Pear Tree Stitching for a wooden teether from Bolamo Design Studio

I think Julia likes it and will put it to good use.

Work In Progress Wed #34

Tanya and I are fully in Christmas mode.  I set the lofty goal of giving every one of the brothers and sisters and their kids a quilt and by my calculations we need to make a lot more quilts. Here are a few of many projects we are working on.

So instead of talking much today I am just going to get to chopping up fabric and see what I can get done.  Tanya and I have this week finished up many quilts and we plan to finish up a few more.  For example I have 3 quilts to bind today and then I must finish some of the blocks that I am currently working on.

Tanya is of course beating me out on overall number of quilts.  This rag quilt for a nephew is sewn, still needs to be cut and washed.   So no rest for me off to work I go.

A View of Deer Valley

Tonight when I got home from work, I found the above 4 bindings made for me by Tanya.  I think this was the hint that I had four more quilts to bind.  I was only successful in completing one quilt tonight, but to me that was a good success.

This is the quilt top that I completed piecing last night.  So it was fun to sit down and start quilting it tonight.  This fabric I got a month ago at my SLMQG meeting  It is a line of Fabric from the Designer Joel Dewberry.  It is from a line called Deer Valley in the palette of tarragon

I liked this fabric from the first time I saw it.  The material was scraps that was given out from another member of the guild.  I was very excited to get it and the first thing I though of when I saw it was that this would look fantastic as another granny square quilt.  I have finished 4 of these now (one of them has not yet been show and will most likely be posted in the next couple days).

Here is a close up of my blocks and the quilting.  You can't tell by the pictures, but the white in the granny squares and the white in the borders are 2 different whites.

The back is one sold piece this was the only large scrap in the group and turned out to make a fantastic back.

Birds and Bugs

Today we have another finish from Tanya (yes this is the point that Tanya just laughs at me). Really I have been doing something just have nothing to show for it.

This is a baby rag quilt that Tanya made for the etsy store to replace all of the ones we have sold and given away.  We were out of girl baby rag quilts and had to get some more in.  I have at least one more person in the office at work with a baby on the way and we have a few friends from church.

I love how vivid and bold this quilt is.  I love the red tie dye flannel.

Look see?  I really did manage to do something.  This is a quilt top the final quilt will be for one of the step sisters for Christmas.  I made it out of fabric I got from the guild meeting last month and I hope to have it done to show off in time at our guild meeting this Thursday.
