Looking Up or is Down?

Here is the diagonal strip quilt that was finished recently.

Tanya and I are on vacation this week so you get pictures but not much else today.  I wish I had more time to talk about this quilt as I love it.  I will be making a pattern out of this that can be done scrappy style or strip stile like this.

Some pictures of the back.

This earth tone quilt looks so much better in person that what the pictures show.  The fabric for this quilt is really interesting it is Natural Instincts by McKenna Ryan a Hoffman Fabrics Line. It was densely quilted in horizontal lines that seem to add a lot more texture.  The back is made with leftovers.  It might be hard to decide which side is the front. It is bound with brown, but because of the gradient colors, it looks like a scrappy binding.

It has been added to our etsy shop.  There is a table top version coming soon.

LAFF Winners and other things

It was pointed out to me that last month on our 2 giveaways that I was some what of a slacker not posting who won.  For my B-day May 13 giveaway The winner was Joyce from North Carolina who said

And on Tanya's B-Day the winner was Gillian from Gloucester UK

And I just pulled the winner for LAFF for may (yes I am way way behind this month) and the winner is...

LAFF Number 67 Quilt number...

Heather is our winner and she has been emailed.

Since I have not given any thing use full to the rest of you I want to offer you a free class on Craftsy.  If you would not like a class but rather a pattern of mine off Craftsy just click this link here and pick a pattern you like from the list and comment here and I will send it too you.  If you want to leave a comment on the pattern I would love that too.

1) Craftsy Block of the Month 2013 with Laura Nownes - As a new quilter I suggest this class.  It will give you some great hints and suggestions on block construction throughout the whole year.
2) QuiltCon Lecture Series 2013 - I am a member of the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild and as such was sad that I was not able to go to QuiltCon.  So at my request (OK, well maybe it had nothing to do with me) they were kind enough to put together a lecture series so that I did not have to completely miss out on the experience.

3) Creative Quilt Backs with Elizabeth Hartman - Back in May, HMQS was held here in Salt Lake City, Utah.  SLMQG was lucky enough to get Elizabeth Hartman to come talk to our guild as a guest speaker. I was excited I got to meet her and learn directly from her.  For the rest of you, you can enjoy this free class.

Can we say Car Wash?

This picture was taken a few days ago and it was cute at the time.  Poor Julia now has a cold and maybe she was not enjoying this car wash as much as we enjoyed taking her picture, but I could not help sharing it.

I am not sure if any one could guess what color quilt I am going to make next but I figured I had to give a hint.  My plan is to make a pink and gray version of my twenty five block quilt that I last did in orange and gray (still trying to figure out what to call that type quilt if any one has a suggestion please share it).  I still have lots of left over gray thanks to Tanya nixing the idea of the orange and gray quilt for her bed.  The other day in the LQS we bought 3 grab bags with "Pink" in them as we had so little in the personal stash most of this came out of those bags.  For quilts like I like to make, those grab bags are like gold.

Tanya while I was not looking, completed this above top. All I have to show for what I did this week was a pile of fabric, I think Tanya is out doing me what do you think?  For those that do not notice what this quilt is its is my pattern Color Blast done in a Tanya Style.  I myself think it looks amazing, though don't tell Tanya I still like my orange one better.

As a re-cap from last week, my son James graduated from West High School and he has officially made Tanya and I feel old.  I can hardly believe he is only a little younger then Tanya and I were when we met.  Oh does time fly.

Matching Quilts

This post by Tanya, but quilt made by Richard. For Christmas, OK, quite a bit after Christmas, Rebecca's twin size quilt was finished by Richard.

Here is the baby size version for little Julia, the leftover fabrics with a twist.  Rebecca's quilt had matching fabric on all blocks. The back of Julia's is a pale blue, where Rebecca's was a white muslin.  We used a blue, red, white, and gray striped binding  on Julia's. Richard thought the binding looked too boring in the fabric store. I think it was just the touch the quilt needed.

Do you buy your bindings at the same time you buy the stuff for top or later as an after thought?  Do you take a block or the quilt with you or just try to find something that you think will match.  We have done it both ways. Only once or twice have we bought something that would not work. I usually don't take more than scrap of fabric if anything to the store.

For a little bit of a modern take, one spot is plain white, no block.  That and we ran out of fabric.  It is a line that is few years old.  The original fabric and some completed blocks came from someone in our quilt guild.  We added a lot of Kona white and manged to make two quilts from it, one for each of the girls.

I think I like the scrappy look of Julia's better.  She has so many quilts and is still at the stage she doesn't really like them yet. Hopefully she starts, before they are all too small for her.

My recent pictures have involved a lot in a white chair next to rosebushes, Richard claims it  is getting old.  I put a couple in anyway.  I like  my roses  and the chair, the weeds not so much.  I also had my helper cat in the last one.  Rat Cat likes to follow me.
