Rag Quilt From Stash # 8 and a Winner

I bet you were starting to think that maybe Tanya ran out of flannel, so no rag quilt this week.  This one is made out of puppy print flannel and and gray tie dye.  Three of the gray squares have a bone with the word "Woof"  embroidered on it.

The batting in this quilt was a third layer of dark brown flannel to give it a fun contrast.

The exciting news is that the winner of the Modern Fabric Giveaway is

Table Runners for Halloween

A few weeks ago my sister in law told me that I needed to make some smaller items so that I can go to some of the shows that she sells her pottery at and I took her to heart and these are 2 of the table runners I have made.  I think in total I have made 5 of them.

I made some simple ones and some more difficult ones and I even made a pattern and put it on Craftsy for free.  These are some fun table runners and I plan to make a few dozen more of them.

The hardest thing I find with these things is how to take good pictures.  They are so small that it takes me a little more effort to get a good shot.

Now remember Monday I announced a giveaway of 4 fat quarters that giveaway closes Friday so you still have time to enter it if you have not yet.

Lastly I have still been quilting on this Ghastlie quilt and it is almost complete and ready to show off.

A Modern Yardage Giveaway

Giveaway is now closed.

Today I would like to tell you a little about a fun company that is new and amazing on the quilting scene. They are located just a few miles from my home.  Their name is Modern Yardage.  Over the last year, a few of the members of the Salt Lake Modern Quilt Guild have brought and shown off projects and some of this fabric in our guild meetings.  I have been stewing about this for some time and finally decided I had to have some of this fabric.  Above is one of a few images I will post here of the fabric I bought.  This is from a line called Earth to Sky by Katie Schrader.  When I saw it I decided I had to have it all, but sadly Tanya stopped me from buying it all.  I did buy 10 fat quarters (I will be back for more later).

One of the neat things about Modern Yardage is they print (yes print) your fabric to order.  Unlike traditional quilting fabrics which are produced in mass and shipped to your LQS, this fabric is printed to your order.  You can read more about the how and why of it all on their site here.  For me I just say amazing.  I am a computer geek (oh and I quilt too) and the technology behind all of this is amazing.  Modern Design has rounded up an amazing team of fabric designers to bring us this amazing fabric.

One of the first things you will notice looking at what showed up in my box is how differently my 10 fat quarters showed up.  Modern Yardage prints their fabric 44 inches wide which is pretty standard, but their printer has a 58 inch fabric width.  Hum what to do with all that spare space.  As you can see in the images above that space is full of fun things.  The side is filled with all kinds of fun treasures.  My 10 fat quarters had a thank you note from modern yardage, a fabric care instructions, an about my designer image and a neat modern yardage logo section.  The designer of this fabric had a fun little bunting cutout that is also included and my daughters favorite item it had a skirt pattern at the end.

While I sit here thinking about where I am going to hang up my little bunting, I am sure you are thinking HEY! You got all this new fabric what do I get?

Today's giveaway  includes 4 Fat Quarters of your choice printed and sent to you!
Giveaway will close 8/30/2013

How do I win you say?  Multiple ways to enter, do as many or as few as you chose.

Custom Ordered Quilt Complete

It is interesting how some times the things requested are the simplest to do.  Tanya was recently asked to make a quilt that was similar to one we had on Etsy, but a little bigger.  This is just a simple charm square quilt, but it was requested using the same fabric line (2 years old) and white minky on the back.

The hardest part of this quilt was finding the material.  Tanya orders a few charm packs and when they showed up she realized it did not have enough of the flowers which is what the request was for so she ordered a few more.  Now we have the left overs of 5 charm packs, but we do have a happy baby with a new quilt.  These are from the Amela line a Me and My Sisters fabric line.  Tanya is a huge fan of theirs so I am sure she will use up the leftovers in something fun.

Speaking of happy babies and happy dad's I went by my baby's crib and was delighted to see her using the quilt I made for her.  She likes grabbing the quilts and throwing them on the ground (basically unfolding them), but has never really used them.  Look she is sleeping with it and better yet the pillow case I made her is on a pillow and she is sleeping on it.

My teen (baby) is also using her quilts that I have made.  She has a twin size version of the quilt that Julia is sleeping under.  Also on her bed is her skeleton quilt (that she made in school last year) and that purple in the bottom left corner is the lap quilt I made her.  It is fun to see something I made being loved and used.
