Spines Mini Quilt (Wall Hanging)

Last week I went though a paper piecing kick.  Part of which was instigated by my modern quilt guild.  They are planning a training on paper piecing tonight and I figured I needed to figure it out before hand.  I believe we plan to do a challenge but I don't remember for sure.

I created the pattern for this block my self on EQ7.  Some one on Pintrest commented that it looks like the top of a pineapple.  I made 4 of my blocks and toyed with how I wanted to put it together.  As you can see above and below was my 2 choices.  I of course chose to point them in.

To me it remines me of a trap with spines on it that you could stick your hand into and get caught in.  I know not a great name but hey I was not going for a name but rather going for trying something a little harder then the last paper pieced block I made.

The back of the quilt I sewed 2 triangles on to use to hang it up.  One interesting thing on this quilt is I also free motion stitched it in the ditch.  And of course the back is made from scraps.  All of the material in this project was just left over stuff in the stash.

The method to my madness

Sometimes I wonder what the method to my madness is.  I jump from project to project and some I have a clue what I plan to do with them others are just random scraps of fabric sewn together.

I take many more pictures then I actually post.  I really should show more of these things in progress.  These are some of the things that are sitting on my desk to finish.  Some are tops and others are quilted and only missing bindings to be complete.

And some are completed quilts that are just waiting for time to get a post of their own.  But today I just wanted to show some of the random things sitting on my desk waiting to be finished.

Diagonal Quilt and Pattern.

Today I would like to share my newest Diagonal Quilt.  I created this using my newest pattern. This is my 3rd Diagonal Quilt.  If you go to Crafty and put a comment on the pattern and come back here and leave a comment I will send you a copy of the pattern for free. Please make sure your email is available so that I can send you the pattern.  I have recently had 2 people comment but they are no-reply bloggers so I can not send the pattern.

My first Diagonal Quilt was made using a neat ombre material (yes I had to look up that name it even stumped me) Above is the back of my newest quilt.  At the time I made the back I had recently read a comment from one of my blog posts that talked about a log cabin block made similar to the style I used in my quilt (sewing into long rows my material and then re-cut it).  So the block in the back is just that.

For the pictures in this post I decided to take the quilts to the park.  I took the easy job of watching Julia play, while I stiffed Tanya with the picture taking.  She had a fun time first starting with taking pictures on the grass and then on a rock and then on a bench.  The above was done over a pull up bar.

Out of all the rock pictures I like this one of the back of my quilt the best.  I almost think I should make a pattern for the back of the quilt and sell it as the front of the quilt.  I put my square in the middle with diagonal lines going across above and below it.

Above is the first picture I made after the quilt was washed.  It is the only full up and down shot which I think is needed of any quilt, but it is not my favorite shot of the quilt.

I do think that I like this picture of the quilt on the grass.  It is not the best color wise but it is a fun picture of the quilt all the same.  If you visit my quilt pattern on Craftsy and put a comment on it (or on one of the quilts attached to it) I will email you a copy of the pattern for free.  Make sure to put a comment here so I get a email to reply too with the pattern.

Turquoise and Brown Heart Baby Quilt

Today we would like to share our Turquoise and Brown Heart.  These blocks are some of the oldest things we have worked on.  I talked about it in these 3 posts here, here, and here.

I had lots of fun quilting squares on the hearts.  Tanya did the first few and then I finished them when she was taking too much time.

We went to the park to take these pictures.  I think they turned out so much better then the inside shots we took.  Sadly though we were having too much sun as a issue in our shots.  Its funny how we can have not enough and then too much light.

Paper Piecing Fun

I had so much fun with my last paper pieced block for my Star Bright Quilt. (that one was green) I had to make more.  The quilt needs 6 different colors and Green was first, Now I have some purple and orange blocks done.

I am so surprised that it took me so long to get serious and try paper piecing.  Now that i have 15 blocks made (I made 5 of each block so far).  I decided that I could make even more paper pieced items.

So after 15 blocks I had to try something different.  I pulled up EQ7 and created me a new block.  In EQ7 I called it spines.  I am not sure if that is going to stick as its name but for now that is what I will call it.

I had fun making this block it is 7 inch finished I made 4 of them and in a few days I will show you the completed mini quilt.

Here is one block completed.
