The crazy last week is over

Two weeks ago before my father in law passed away Tanya and I went shopping and I found some more lizards.  My wife gets kind of tired of my impulses but she let this one go.  These are some flannel ones we found and I think they are cute.  We will make a couple baby rag quilts out of it.  Sadly cutting it up was the last sewing and cutting work I had a chance to do.

My father in law's funeral was great.  Tanya shared some great stories of her dad as well as her sister and a couple friends of her dads.  My father in law had a fantastic casket that was hand made with neat designs burned into the knotty pine. The below plaque is a example of the neat work.

My father in law was a man of the earth and even his casket spay included dead sage brush, pine boughs and just a few flowers, very fitting for him.   His last ride the the cemetery was behind his Jeep, rather then in the hearse that drove in front of it.

After the funeral on the 3rd, the kids needed a release and they got to celebrate the 4th with almost every cousin in the family on hand.

My son Jared got the ultimate bribe this last week to be good at both the funeral and on the ride up and back home.  He earned Benny's Space other wise known as "spaceship, spaceship, SPACESHIP!!" for all of those lost on this, its from the Lego's Movie.  I underestimated its cost when I offered it too him as a bribe when I got back it turns out its a $100 Lego set.  Good thing he was a great kid this weekend.  It even took him 2 full days to assemble it which gave me some more time to rest.

All and all live is slowly getting back to normal.  Now to go sit down and make a quilt and let the tension out  after our stressful week

Tribute to a Great Man

My Father in law Nolan Button (Tanya's Father) passed away this last Sunday after complications after surgery to remove some cancer they found.  I had a complicated relationship with my Father in law he was a man use to toiling with his hands running heavy equipment from a small town (Kanab) in southern Utah and I was a city boy from the large city in the north (Salt Lake City).  From the day I asked his permission to marry his oldest daughter to the last day I saw him (this last fathers day) walking around we never understood each other.  We were from different planets or at least as close as we could be to that.  I with my fancy computers and web development and his digging in the dirt with his equipment.  But we did share one thing in common and that is that we both truly loved the same girl, my wife Tanya.

Nolan will be missed not only by my wife, but by me.  I always wanted to know and understand him more and for him to understand me.  But that will have to wait tell another time now.  I loved him and was able to sit by his side and hold his hand while he passed from this earth.  He will be missed and is love by the Healey family.  His funeral will be held this 7/3/2014

Life and some Bento Box Blocks

Richard has been attending a new guild called My Sister's 'N Stitches Quilt Guild. They do a block swap every other month.  For this month they are trading Red, White, and Blue Bento Box Blocks.   Here are some of the blocks he did.  The finished blocks will be cut in quarters and 2 of the solid white sold blocks will be swamped with the white solid white blocks.

They didn't want them cut, so here they are pre-cut. He did 16 blocks for the swap with 8 extras for home.  This should make a fun patriotic quilt and maybe a table runner or two.  The mix at this guild is pretty good, some old, some young, mostly traditional with some modern.  So far he is really liking it. It is held at a quilt shop a few miles from his work.

The past two weekends have been spent in Cedar City, Utah.  We spend Father's Day with my (Tanya's) family.  The following Sunday we went down, because my Dad had surgery and wasn't doing well.  We were afraid we were going to be planning a funeral for this weekend, but he is slowly starting to make a little progress.  He is starting to move his arms and legs and at least open his eyes.  He still isn't doing great, but seems to making a little progress each day.  At this point we are thinking he will at least make it. The trick is to get him better and then to start the fun of chemotherapy.

A while back we won some fabric in a giveaway from Simple Sew

It has been sitting on a desk to take picture of, but life has kind of got in the way. Richard's machine has been working great after it's trip to the Dr., just been too busy to sew much.  With any luck, Saturday we will get a little sewing done and some pictures taken to put some of our newer quilts on Etsy.

This little one keeps us going when the world looks bleak.
