Hot Pad's and More Hotpads

We decided to do hot pads for family members last year for Christmas along with some homemade jam.  We normally don't do loops, because we couldn't figure out how to do them.  After several tutorials, we decided we need to do a bias type binding.  After ironing them manually on a couple, I decide that was a joke and we invested in a bias tape maker.
We also are trying to do some hot pads out of linen for someone and they are not working out at all. We broke or bent 4 needles trying to bind them.  The linen combined with Insulbrite is just too thick.

There were many more, but like our 12 days hot pads we sorta jumped the gun and sent out all the presents  and forgot to take pictures first.  Oh well hope that you enjoy these.

What's On the Quilting Table #5

Last time on WOQT, we finished the center of our 3rd Reunion quilt top.  Today starts with sewing that quilt top together.  This quilt is one of our Simple Squares Quilts.  They are one of our go to baby quilts that we enjoy making.

I was also sewing together this Baby Bricks quilt and well I needed to show of the completed top.

Here is the finished quilt top for our 3rd Reunion quilt.

I took a break from quilting the other day and went to play video games and when I came into the other room my wife was hanging up this quilt that she made.  We made another Dr Suess Quilt and well it was too busy.  She toned it down.  Again like all other quilts I cut out enough material for a couple quilts, but after the first I could not make the 2nd it was too busy.  Check out the post on that quilt too see why. Tanya finally used her new machine, or Richards' new machine as he refers to it. 

To end today's post, I finally got to do some quilting on the new machine.  This thing runs fast.  Oh and I even sewed my finger in the process.  I did not take a picture of that (it hurt too much and blood well, is not good in a quilting blog) but it did no major harm.  It was a through and through sew of my left hand pointer finger just a little right of my finger nail.  It did manage to snap the needle though so I guess it was hard enough to make it mad haha.

Not Quite What we Planned

This is the second broken chevron that was requested by a customer.  It wasn't what they expected, they picked the fabric and pattern. I was frustrated and didn't get more than one picture, oops. Neither of us could  get into the project.

They picked Pearl Bracelet in rainbow colors.  The colors appeared real dark for a baby quilt.  They decided they didn't want it and then decided they would take after all.  I took the liberty of choosing a striped binding, that I thought tied it together and lighten it up a little,  they hated it.  They claimed it made to the quilt too babyish. Each to their own opinion.  I love stripes as bindings, and even have them on the two lap quilt Richard made me.

We now see why people charge a deposit on quilts on etsy when making a custom order.  Have you ever made a custom quilt for someone and they backed out?  How did you deal with this?  We are making a second quilt at cost, eating labor for them to be happy. Not our easiest customer so far.

It is funny we wrote this post months ago and hated the quilt so bad (well the experience with this customer) that I never posted it.  It is time.  It must be shown.

What's On the Quilting Table #4

Last time on WOQT, we were piecing the reunion Simple Squares Quilt.  Today we get to show you the completed tops for the first 2 quilts out of Reunion.

I can't decide which I like better, the darker one on top of the lighter one just above this text.  Well ok, maybe I do have a preference I think the lighter one is better.  What do you think?

I like pieced backs and so above you can see me making one of the 2 backs.  I did make 2 though, only took pictures of one back.

As I said earlier I had some left overs so what did I do? Yes, I made the center of a third quilt.

I did take some time off from my reunion quilt tops to sew some borders on this center of a Baby Bricks Quilt. The center was made months ago and set aside.  It is almost funny to see how many half quilted projects I have.  I do think this will be a cute quilt when finished.
