Custom Orange Quilt who could say no!

The other day I got a request to make my diagonal quilt in orange, white, and cream.  And how could I turn that down.  If you have followed my blog from the early days you might remember that I created a all orange quilt that my wife hated and every one loved. Well now I get to have another one (for a day or 2) but hey that just means I need to do my norm and make 2!  The pile above is what we finally decided on material wise.

My favorite part of quilting is chopping the material up.  I think I have more fun doing that then any thing else.  Here you see the fun pile of fabrics I turned into this quilt.

One thing I like about these quilts is how interesting they look while constructing them.  Instead of working from top to bottom I work from top right down to bottom left.  Sadly the orange and my tan walls do not like each other but above you can see the colors better.

Its funny that no matter when I take pictures, I have all the kids run into the room and want to get into the shot.  Here is cute little Julia trying to sneak into the photo shoot.

And of course here is the completed top  I love how this pattern of mine goes together.  It is a complete random fling of color and fun.  Can't wait to see how the customer likes it.

Happy Mothers Day!

Today sadly I have no new quilts to share but I need to reflect some on mothers day love.  My 4 kids are up (some under protest) and at the top of their lungs yelling at each other are Quietly making mother breakfast in bed.  I want to say how much I love my wife and mother and all the mothers before them that make my family possible.  Mothers are a treasured gift.  Happy mothers day to all.

Now if I can just keep the kids from killing each other before breakfast is served.  The Joys of Fathers on Mothers day!

HMQS 2014 Quilts in Review

Today I had the fortune of visiting the HMQS 2014 show here in Salt Lake City Utah where I live.  I have gone to the show for the last 3 years.  As a some what new quilter I have been influenced a lot by it as its the only quilt show I have ever gone too.

I took well over 100 pictures and have posted them on my pictures site for any one not able to go to the show you can visit and check them out.  While visiting my picture site if you rate the pictures it will send you to the next un-rated picture in the categories on the picture.  I am interested on what quilts you guys like.

It was so much fun walking around and looking at quilts.  I did not take pictures of all of the quilts.  But then again I took way over 100 pictures so I must have liked a few.  Some pictures I took because I liked the colors. Others I took because I liked a technique used in the quilt.

I am humbled when going to this show because it shows me really how much I have still to learn.  Being a new quilter (only 2 1/2 years) I may have made many quilts but I have not made any really difficult quilts.

This year there were not as many modern quilts as last year.  I am not really a modern quilter but I like the modern quilting and would really like to work more on my modern skills.

It is interesting to see how amazing the quilting is on many of these quilts.  I have realized that I am much more into piecing quilts then I am a quilter.  I struggle a lot with my quilting skills.

I have decided that I really want to get a long arm and start upping my quilting game.  Now that I have have decided I need to get a long arm I need to learn more about them and how to quilt with them.

But then again I don't even know where to get that knowledge.  I do know that as a guy at a quilt show I am some what ignored.  Most assume that I was some husband dragged though the show not a quilter in search of more skills to add to the quilt tool bag.

All in all I love the quilt show and hope that if you enjoy these quilts that I have shared here that you will check out the other quilts on my picture site.

Purple Circular Triangle Quilt Top

I had so much fun last few weeks doing the Triangle quilt along that I had to make another one.  I designed this quilt top on EQ7 and I think it turned out pretty good.  I enjoyed the Minky on the last triangle quilt that I think I am going to have Tanya find me another one for the back of this one too.  My Daughter Rebecca was looking at it and asking if it was for her.  LOL nope it was just made because I wanted too.

I have talked in the past about my patterns on Etsy.  I have never quite figured out what makes the top quilts on the top but from time to time mine pop up.  2-3 weeks ago I found this one where 4-6 on the top 20 were mine.  Tonight I posted a new pattern for my 25 square quilts (I am making a purple one you can see the top on Instagram).  As normal for any of my blog followers if you visit the pattern on Craftsy and comment on it and then come back here and leave a comment you can have a free copy of the pattern.
